We have seen and been asked about some posts that have been circulating on the internet about poll workers writing on your ballot at polling places.
Fact: Iowa Code §49.82 requires poll workers to place their initials on each ballot before giving it to the voter.
Fact: The initials on a ballot do not disqualify a ballot. If you ask for a replacement, your new ballot will have initials too.
Our poll workers are very dedicated in conducting fair, safe and accurate elections. Helping every eligible voter cast their vote ensuring their vote has been counted and that their vote does make a difference and matter. These poll workers live in your community and are your neighbors, friends and relatives.
If you have voted in the last Primary, City/School , or General Elections, nothing has changed. Poll workers have put their initials on your ballot in these elections.
If you have any questions about the voting process or your ballot, please contact the Winnebago County Auditor’s office at 641-585-3412 or the Iowa Secretary of State’s office for accurate election information.
