Have you ever met somebody who finds something wrong with everything you do? No matter how much you give, how hard you try, or how often you show up, it’s never enough.
You could lay down in a puddle for them to walk across, and they’d complain you weren’t flat enough!
You could give the coat off of your back and they will say you could’ve at least had it dry cleaned first.
But hear me: you cannot spend your life trying to satisfy everyone’s expectations. You can give from your heart and still have limits. You can love people and still have boundaries.
Sometimes you don’t discover where you stand with someone until you tell them no. When you can’t meet their expectations, they may criticize you or question your heart. Their disappointment doesn’t automatically mean you’ve done something wrong.
No, you can’t have my peace.
No, you can’t have my joy.
No, I cannot keep running myself empty trying to prove that I care.
Even Jesus took time away from the crowds to pray. There will always be another need, another request, and another person wanting your time. You need rest and care, too.
Be willing to hear honest feedback, keep your heart kind, and remember that kindness does not require saying yes to everything.
Let me say it for the people in the back: “No” is a complete sentence!
You can say it with love. You can say it respectfully. You can say it without guilt.
Your worth is not measured by how much you do for others. It’s okay to say, “I can’t do that.” It’s okay to rest. And it’s okay to protect the peace God has given you. ❤️🙏
