No rains…no burning….sing it with us, to the tune of Bob Marley’s “No Woman, No Cry”

It may be October, but it’s still way too dry out there to open burning. Until consistent fall rains arrive, there is no yard debris or agricultural burning allowed anywhere in Washington County.

Keep in mind that some long term forecasts are calling for little to no precipitation into November.

🎶 So no rains, no burning
Oh, no-no
Say it one more time
No rains, no burning
Oh my little burn pile maker
You can dry your weeping eyes
No rains, no burning, ay

𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗘 𝗗𝗔𝗠𝗔𝗚𝗘𝗦 𝗥𝗩 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗦𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗟 𝗩𝗘𝗛𝗜𝗖𝗟𝗘𝗦 𝗜𝗡 𝗚𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗦 𝗖𝗥𝗘𝗘𝗞

At 10:04am this morning, we were dispatched to a reported residential fire in the 56700 block of NW Wilson River Highway in Gales Creek. As crews responded, dispatchers advised the fire was in a 5th wheel RV and not a fixed structure. Due to the potential of the fire spreading, the full response continued to the scene. When firefighters arrived on scene, they found the RV fully engulfed in flames with two nearby passenger vehicles on fire. While initiating the fire attack, a live power line to a nearby house under construction had burned and fell to the ground, creating a hazard for firefighters to work around. Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to a nearby house under construction as well as the forest surrounding the property. It took firefighters approximately 15 minutes to deem the incident under control.

Crews worked for over an hour extinguishing hot spots from the exterior of the RV, which was too unstable for crews to make entry into the interior. For approximately an hour during the fire incident, we had one lane of Wilson River Highway closed due to our fire apparatus blocking. Washington County Sheriff Deputies provided traffic control during the duration of the lane closure.

The RV was being used as a primary residence, while work on the house was being conducted. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The RV as well as two cars were heavily damaged, with two additional vehicles receiving moderate and minor damage. The resident was evaluated on scene for smoke inhalation, but didn't require transport to a hospital.

We were assisted on scene by Banks Fire District 13, Cornelius Fire Department - Oregon, Washington County Sheriff's Office, AMR Washington County, Oregon, Portland General Electric and Oregon Department of Transportation.

—————————————————————

We are on scene of a RV fire at a residence on NW Wilson River Highway. Crews have the fire contained and are working on a leaking propane tank. While we operate on the scene, we have one lane of the highway closed with Washington County Sheriff's Office flagging traffic around our units. Expect slight delays on Highway 6 near Milepost 41 until our crews clear the incident.

We had a blast over the weekend at the 62nd Annual Corn Roast. Our personnel kept the fires roaring and corn a roasting throughout the event. It is estimated we roasted between one and a billion ears of corn (we didn’t keep a count).

We it was over, we enjoyed seeing the downtown sidewalks adorned with amazing artwork. We can’t wait until next year.
