We have received several calls regarding the circumstances surrounding a lockdown at a local school after a student reportedly brought a firearm onto school property.
At this time, we have not been notified of the situation through official channels and, like many members of our community, became aware of the circumstances through information circulating publicly.
We want our community to know that we are here to protect our children and the citizens of Forest, Mississippi. The safety and well-being of our students, families, school staff, and community remain our highest priority.
We encourage everyone to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and allow the appropriate authorities and school officials to provide confirmed details as they become available.
Our children deserve to feel safe at school, and our community deserves clear communication when incidents such as this occur. We will continue to do everything within our authority to help keep our schools and community safe.
Chief Steven Bell and the school superintendent are meeting to discuss the situation and coordinate communication regarding the incident.
