A Red Flag Warning goes into effect this evening for our area. These conditions can create an increased risk for rapid fire spread, so please remain alert and use extra caution.

Both Foresthill Fire Protection District stations have their Red Flag Warning signs posted to help keep our community informed.

🔥 Please help reduce the risk of wildfire:

• Avoid activities that could create sparks or ignite dry vegetation.
• Secure trailer chains and equipment that could drag on the roadway.
• Stay aware of changing weather conditions and any fire activity in the area.
• Report smoke or fire immediately by calling 911.

PG&E announces a possible Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) for October 14-17, 2026. The forecast is for high winds, low humidity, and moderate temperatures. A PSPS is done when the combination of low humidity and high winds combine to create elevated fire danger. The intent is to isolate potential sources of ignition caused by the power grid. While PG&E has undergrounded a significant portion of our local utility lines, larger transmission lines that serve the divide are still vulnerable.

It is very possible that winds here on the divide may not exceed the threshold for a PSPS but if areas adjacent to the divide (I80 corridor in particular), where transmission lines that serve our area originate experience high winds which necessitate a PSPS, then it will result in a PSPS here in the Foresthill community.

Is this inconvenient and expensive, yes, but it is important to remember that many of the most destructive wildland fires experienced in California have occurred in the fall months under high wind conditions.

In preparation for the PSPS you should check your emergency supplies, change batteries in flashlights and other portable equipment, identify food which may need to be placed in ice chests, precook meals as needed, run and power test generators, secure in advance of the PSPS generator fuel, and review your families emergency and communication plans.

Additionally, with the elevated fire severity conditions everyone should also review their evacuation plans and have ready things you will need should we experience a wind driven fire requiring evacuation.

Make sure you have some ability to call for help and obtain information during a power outage. For those with fiber optic internet; fiber internet requires power to function. Unless you have some form of backup power you will not have access to Sebastian internet services.

A few items of caution:

Do not operate internal combustion engines indoors and do not run generators near windows or doors leading to occupied spaces in your home as Carbon Monoxide build up can cause illness or death.

Avoid the use of candles for light for obvious reasons. And if it is not obvious - because they are a frequent cause of house fires.

Lastly, sign up for emergency notifications at Placer Ready and download the Watchduty app for the most up to date information on wildland fires including evacuation information.

We will update as needed over the next few days.

MINERAL FIRE UPDATE Sept 20, 2026 8PM

Law-enforcement officers from multiple agencies and counties continue to search the area in Iowa Hill for a suspect wanted for earlier crimes. The armed suspect who fired at law-enforcement is still considered a threat to fire personnel and law-enforcement in the area of Iowa Hill. This safety issue is preventing fire personnel from engaging. No fire suppression efforts are underway at this time.

Cal Fire has staged a large contingent of resources in the area and they will initiate fire attack when cleared by law-enforcement authorities. The fire has had a slow progression and was evaluated by aircraft earlier this evening. The perimeter of the fire can be seen on the Watch Duty app. The fire has little wind, low temperatures, and increasing humidity overnight which will help slow the spread of the fire until personnel can be cleared into the scene.

There is an evacuation warning in place for the Iowa Hill area, and there is no threat to the Foresthill community at this time.

This is a good opportunity to refresh on your evacuation plans and make sure everybody is aware of expectations should conditions change.

Get the Watch Duty app for the most current updates on the fire.

CalFire and USFS units are staging at the Mineral Bar Campground near the North fork of the American River off of Iowa Hill Road for a forest fire. The fire is closer to Iowa Hill and no suppression efforts are being taken as this is in close proximity and likely related to a serious active shooter incident near Iowa Hill.

Placer Sheriff had contact with a suspect actively wanted from an incident yesterday in El Dorado County involving a gun and a possible car jacking. Suspect struck a Placer SO unit head on near the Iowa Hill store and fled. Placer Sheriff along with multiple other law-enforcement agencies are working in the area to locate the suspect multiple gunshots have been reported.

We will monitor the progress of the fire and update when more information is available. At this time there is no threat to the Foresthill community.

Tonight, in a 19 minute span of time, your Foresthill Fire District received 3 calls for service; a structure fire, a roll over vehicle accident with major injuries, and a serious medical aid. The structure fire was a fire in a dryer which had several engines responding.
Fortunately, the fire was contained to the dryer and an engine from our local CalFire station and Foresthill Medic 88 were able to clear that scene and respond in a timely fashion to the vehicle accident.

When the third call came in, your E90 staff with advanced life support paramedics, was able to clear the structure fire and respond to the serious medical aid along with an ambulance from AMR. At the same time, an air ambulance was requested for the victim of the vehicle accident which required a unit to respond for helicopter landing zone safety. That response was handled by a second CalFire engine. The closest air ambulance was extended so Medic 88 transported the patient to the closest trauma center assisted by 2 firefighters from one of our local CalFire engines.

At the medical aid, we had a slightly delayed response but were able to get advanced life support to the scene in a timely fashion. The ground ambulance from AMR took 35 minutes to arrive making our local advanced life support response very important.

All of these incidents were handled simultaneously through a cooperative and coordinated response of local, county, and state resources that serve our community. And it all happened without most of our community being aware that anything was happening!

A big thanks to Placer County Fire, AMR ambulance, and CalFire for being there in support of the Foresthill community
