The 82nd Airborne Division pauses to honor the life and memory of one of our own, World War II veteran Private First Class Hugh Douglas Wallis, who has passed away at the age of 102.

A Kentucky native, Wallis volunteered for the airborne at age 18 and served with Company H, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment. From the trenches of Anzio to the bitter cold of the Ardennes, and throughout the perilous daylight crossing of the Waal River during Operation Market Garden, PFC Wallis exemplified the grit, courage, and selfless devotion of our “Devils in Baggy Pants.”

After returning home, he lived a long and faithful civilian life, but his heart never left the paratroopers he served alongside.
To the Wallis family, our thoughts and deepest respect are with you.

Well done, Paratrooper. Your stick has landed, and your legacy will never be forgotten.

Airborne. All The Way. Strike Hold.
