Our Story

The Northwest-Progresso-Flagler Heights Community Redevelopment Area (NPF CRA) was created in 1995 to eliminate slum and blighting conditions in the areas near downtown Fort Lauderdale and North West Fort Lauderdale. The Fort Lauderdale City Commission serves as the Community Redevelopment Agency Board of Directors. The CRA Advisory Board also serves to support the overall CRA mission and enrich the community.

Just minutes from downtown, the NPF CRA is ideally located to both public and private transit options, including the Sun Trolley’s northwest community link to connect to the Tri-Rail, near the site of the All Aboard Florida station that will connect to the Sun Trolley and Broward County Transit system, minutes from Interstate 95, Florida’s Turnpike, Port Everglades and the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport.

NPF CRA programs and initiatives are funded by property tax increments. The NPF CRA invests tax increment revenues in a myriad of programs and projects that reflect the goals and objectives of its community redevelopment plan. These programs and projects include: business attraction/ retention, workforce housing, infrastructure development, community facilities, and other endeavors that promote an improved and safer neighborhood environment that fosters community pride.

Since 1995, The NPF CRA has invested more than $26 million in public infrastructure improvements including the Sistrunk Corridor Streetscape and lighting enhancements throughout the redevelopment area. Several new businesses have opened and existing businesses have expanded and hundreds of new housing units have been constructed or rehabilitated. The agency offers various incentive programs to expand economic opportunities and foster dynamic commercial and residential environments.
