Per Billy Shore, the founder of Share Strength add mentor to our President/CEO:

“The (MA) governor said 32% of people utilizing SNAP benefits are children, 31% are people with disabilities and 26% are seniors." Excerpt from Boston Globe but breakdown of the most vulnerable is similar in many states, including Florida…

If this doesn’t persuade Congress to pass legislation to ensure that SNAP funds are not interrupted, I don’t know what would. Be a voice for the vulnerable! Pressure is building. Speaking up and speaking out does make a difference. Be civil not silent.

Celebrate World Food Day, but take a moment to realize just how many families and children, including so many in South Florida, are hungry and/or food insecure. It is a travesty! 🥲

ACTION NEEDED – Tell Congress to Reinstate USDA's Food Security Report
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that, after this year, it will no longer release the Economic Research Service (ERS) Household Food Security report, the gold standard for measuring hunger in America. This decision silences the evidence we need to hold policymakers accountable and threatens to deepen America's hunger crisis.

For more than 30 years, the ERS report has provided critical, annual data showing how many families struggle to put food on the table. Policymakers, advocates, and communities rely on this report to:

– Measure progress in reducing hunger;
– Evaluate federal nutrition programs like SNAP, WIC, and school meals;
– Document the impact of harmful policy changes, like recent cuts to SNAP via the budget reconciliation law; and
– Identify communities most at risk of hunger.

Without it, we lose the ability to show what’s working, where families are being left behind, and how hunger is affecting health, education, and our workforce.

Contact your members of Congress today and urge them to reach out to USDA and demand it reinstate the ERS Household Food Security report.

Your message matters. Hunger will not end by ignoring it. Data makes it impossible to look away, and Congress needs to act now.

We at the SFHC are so proud to recognize our VP of Programming and Operations, Jolene Mullins! Today is a special day, as it is the third Anniversary of her joining our organization on August 1st, 2022, after an incredible career and a lifetime of service to the poor, sick, marginalized and those in need. After obtaining her Bachelor of Science in Biology and her Masters Degree in Public Health/Epidemiology, she choose a career in public service that has included the United States Peace Corps, Liberia; the Country Director, Minnesota International Health Volunteers, Uganda; the Country Director, International Medical Corps (IMC), Nigeria; the Country Director, International Medical Corps (IMC), Nepal; the International Medical Corps, Occupied Palestinian Territories (Gaza) and many other international and local humanitarian organizations before joining the SFHC. She is amazing and inspiring to all of us every day. Here is Jolene while working with one of our major partners, Harvest Drive, as they prepped a recent massive food distribution. Actions speak louder than words, and she has been one of our "Hunger Heroes" since her first day with us. We love and thank you, Jolene!
