Avoid travelling in the area of the GWB for the next 6 hours. We have been advised of multiple lane closures into NYC due to a motor vehicle collision which involves a fatality.

Numerous officers are assigned to multiple traffic posts throughout the Borough in an effort to continue to mitigate the traffic problem as best as we can.

Please continue to plan accordingly and give yourself plenty of extra time when traveling today.

Earlier this year, the Fort Lee Police Department and the Maywood Police Department K-9 Unit demonstrated exceptional teamwork, dedication, and bravery in the successful rescue of a missing person in a dangerous cliff area.

Through the expert tracking skills of K-9 Sergeant Chris Nichols and bloodhound Phoenyx of the Maywood Police Department, combined with the coordinated efforts of Fort Lee patrol officers and detectives, the teams located the individual in need of urgent medical assistance.

Bloodhound Phoenyx tracked the scent of the victim for over 90 minutes and covered 2.5 miles prior to reaching the cliff area. Once they reached the cliff area, a Fort Lee Police Officer heard cries for help coming from below the cliffs. The victim was ultimately rescued from the cliff and provided the medical attention they needed.

In recognition of their outstanding service, professionalism, and life-saving actions, the personnel involved were recently awarded the John R. Rinaldi Unit Citation Award from the 200 Club of Bergen County at their annual Valor Awards Dinner.

Thank you to Fort Lee’s Sergeant Andres Kim, Detective Min Sung Kim, Detective Christian Buonsanto, Police Officer Dimitri Koutroubinis, Police Officer Elias Lorenzo, Police Officer Thomas Mustardo, and Maywood’s Sergeant Christopher Nichols with his partner, K-9 Phoenyx for their courage, collaboration, and unwavering commitment to protecting the community.

Due to their excellent teamwork and collaboration, the 200 Club of Bergen County also recognized the Fort Lee Police Department and Maywood Police Department with a John R. Rinaldi Unit Citation Award. Fort Lee Police Chief Matthew J. Hintze and Maywood Police Chief Terence R. Kenny proudly accepted these awards. Thank you Chief Hintze and Chief Kenny for your collaborative leadership and commitment to community safety.
