🇺🇸 NEVER FORGET — 9/11/2001 🇺🇸

Today, Flint Hill Fire Department remembers.

We remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001. We remember the firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, and everyday heroes who ran toward danger and gave the ultimate sacrifice while trying to save others.

We remember the families who were left behind, the lives forever changed, and the courage and sacrifice that should never be forgotten.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the families who lost loved ones that day and with every first responder who continues to carry the memories of September 11.

🇺🇸 25 years later, we remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Flint Hill Fire Department has proudly served our community since 1971, but one of the most important moments in our history happened in 1985.

That year, the department became a Special Tax District, and the community established a voter-approved maximum millage of 10 mills to support fire protection and emergency services.

That maximum has remained in place for 34 years while our community has continued to grow. Understanding that history helps explain why Flint Hill Fire Department continues planning for the future today.

Community Question??
Were you aware that the same maximum millage has remained in place for 34 years?

Wednesday, we will explain why this conversation is taking place.

Flint Hill Fire Department responds to emergencies every day, but one of our most important responsibilities happens long before the tones sound.

Since becoming a Special Tax District in 1985, the department has planned responsibly while operating under the same voter-established maximum millage of 10 mills. During that same time, our community has experienced tremendous growth.

Planning today so we're ready for tomorrow isn't simply a goal - it's our responsibility.

Community Question??
What does responsible planning mean to you when it comes to essential public services?

Coming Next...
Next week we will explain why 1985 remains one of the most important years in our department's history.

Flint Hill Fire Department plans years ahead because emergency services cannot wait until a need becomes urgent.

Planning includes evaluating future staffing needs, fully staffing our ladder company, developing future leaders, maintaining apparatus, investing in firefighter training, and ensuring equipment keeps pace with our growing community.

These decisions require thoughtful planning, responsible stewardship, and a commitment to serving our community well into the future.

Community Question??
What should be the department's highest long-term priority: people, training, equipment, or facilities?

Coming Next...
Friday, we will discuss why planning is one of our greatest responsibilities.

Every fire department has a responsibility to protect its community today. Great Fire departments also prepare for the community they'll serve tomorrow.

Flint Hill Fire Department has proudly served this community since 1971, and planning has always been just as important as responding. Today, the department protects close to 30,000 residents, over 1,000 businesses, and responded to more than 3,300 emergency calls in 2025.

Preparing for tomorrow begins long before the next 911 call. Planning today so we're ready for tomorrow is how Flint Hill Fire Department has served this community for the past 50 years.

Community Question???
When you think about the future of our community, what do you believe is the biggest challenge emergency services will face over the next 10 years?

Coming Next...
Wednesday, we will discuss what planning for the future looks like.

How are Emergency Services Funded?

Flint Hill Fire Department is funded primarily through local property taxes collected within the special tax district. Those resources, support, firefighter staffing, apparatus, equipment, training, station, maintenance, and the ability to respond to more than 3300 emergency calls each year.

Since 1985, the department has focused on being a responsible steward while planning today so we’re ready for tomorrow.
