Brady's Beach Talk Radio interview.
Part DOH!
Tom Brady thinks workforce housing is a priority for this island and that developers need to include that in their public benefits.
Get used to hearing that, because one way or the other, it’s coming.
Either Brady will negotiate it into development deals, or developers will bypass the Town Council entirely because they know they won't get backing for projects that benefit the whole island.
Here is the massive problem: forcing developers into the Live Local Act means the Town loses at least 75% of its ad valorem tax revenue.
Brady even laid out a "scary scenario" for the Beach School land.
Because the Live Local Act allows development on school properties, if Lee County sells that land, it is within a mile of the Seagate building. That means we could easily see a 17-story structure right there.
But hey, Tom—at least you'll get the workforce housing you claim is a "top 3 priority" for this Town.
Is this really the future we are voting for?
When asked if he would approve the Neptune project if he were on town council,
"Sleepy Tom" waffled. He claimed that sharing his view would show bias and disqualify him from a future vote:
"I can't tell you that... if I were their attorneys, I'd be all over me and saying, 'Well, you can't vote on it because you're prejudiced...'"
What a contradiction. As President of ProtectFMB, his stance is already public record.
ProtectFMB’s entire platform explicitly fights against massive overdevelopment, using the Neptune motel project as a prime example of developers using "public benefits" loopholes to get major height and density deviations.
You can't lead an organization dedicated to opposing a project and then pretend you don't have an opinion when asked as a potential council member.
The good news is that the Neptune Project does not have to come back before the Council and can continue to move forward.
Brady also discussed Town Committees and people not wanting to serve because, "I've got an opinion, I expressed it, and then you don't listen to me."
Expressing an opinion does not guarantee your preferred outcome.
People have a hard time understanding that you were listened to; your perspective just didn't align with the final direction.
True civic engagement requires understanding that being heard is not the same as getting your way.
Also of interest to me.
According to Brady --
"I've hired hundreds of people in my career and I' and I've done it in a diverse environment too. I've done it in China and India and Japan and Korea and France uh Sweden".
According to his LinkedIn page, Brady has 30+ years in the IT industry.
You can't convince me that he wasn't exporting American jobs overseas.
"Good Candidate"?
It's your decision, please choose wisely."
