Lt. Cory Witte recently received an EMS Commendation Award for his persistence and attention to detail during a complex 911 response.
Lee Control received an open-line 911 call with no voice contact, but someone struggling to breathe could be heard in the background. GPS information led responders to an apartment complex, where crews began searching for the caller. When a second 911 call came from nearby, it initially appeared the two calls were connected.
But Lt. Witte recognized that something didn't add up.
Rather than assuming the original caller had been located, he continued investigating. Working directly with Lee Control, dispatchers repeatedly called the original phone while Lt. Witte went door-to-door listening for it ringing inside the apartments.
His persistence ultimately led him to the original caller, where he immediately recognized the need for critical care.
The commendation was submitted by Lee Control Lt. Joeleen Jeffery, who worked with Lt. Witte throughout the search and wanted to make sure his actions were recognized.
That recognition speaks to the environment we continue to build across Public Safety. EMS and Lee Control may have different roles during an emergency, but we are part of the same response, and we believe in recognizing the people beside us when they go above and beyond.
Congratulations, Lt. Witte, on a well-deserved EMS Commendation Award. ๐
