STATION 71’S MOST PAW-PULAR VISITOR! 🐾 🔥

Every morning, the firefighters at Station 71, located at the corner of Winkler Road and McGregor Boulevard, have a very important meeting.

But this meeting isn't with the Fire Chief, a battalion chief, or even another member of the department.

It's with Luke. And attendance is mandatory! 🐶 😂

Meet Luke, a 6½-year-old rescue pitty mix with a big smile, an even bigger dog-inality, and a morning routine that has made him an honorary member of the Station 71 family!

But before Luke became a beloved fixture at the firehouse, his story had a much different beginning. At just six months old, Luke was found tied to a post alongside another dog in Gainesville. Thankfully, a rescue organization called Team Moose Animal Rescue stepped in and gave Luke a second chance. That's when his mom, Laura, came into his life, and the two have been inseparable ever since.

A year after Hurricane Ian, Laura and Luke began taking walks past Station 71. For a while, they simply passed by, until one day, a few firefighters called Luke over to say hello. And just like that, a friendship was born!

For roughly the past year and a half, Luke has made visiting his firefighter friends part of his morning routine. And now? There's no walking past that fire station without stopping! Luke arrives just in time to say goodbye to the firefighters wrapping up their 24-hour shift and welcome the incoming crew getting ready to begin theirs.

And Luke takes his job VERY seriously! He makes his rounds to every firefighter, collecting back scratches, belly rubs, and plenty of love along the way. In fact, Luke refuses to leave until every single firefighter has personally greeted him. No one gets a pass! 😂 And our firefighters are more than happy to oblige! No matter what they're doing when Luke arrives, they stop to make sure their four-legged friend gets the attention he deserves.

While Luke loves all of his Station 71 buddies, there's one firefighter who holds an extra-special place in his heart: Engineer Scott Duval. Luke's bond with Scott is so special that Laura actually marks her calendar with little fire trucks on the days Scott is scheduled to work. That way, they know exactly when Luke will get to see one of his favorite humans! And the feeling is mutual! Scott even keeps a stash of Luke's favorite treats at the station, ready for his daily visit.

In fact, Luke loves his firefighter family so much that he's taking his honorary title to the next level this Halloween by dressing up as a Dalmatian! 🐶🚒

And just when we thought this story couldn't get any cuter, we discovered one more connection! As we were getting ready to share Luke's story, we learned that our very own receptionist, Lani, is Luke's dog sitter! Apparently, Luke has been part of the Iona McGregor Fire District family in more ways than we even realized!

What started as a simple hello during a morning walk has turned into one of Station 71's most beloved traditions. Our firefighters look forward to seeing Luke and Laura just as much as Luke looks forward to seeing them. Luke may not wear bunker gear, ride on the engine, or answer 911 calls, but he's certainly earned his place as an honorary member of the Station 71 family. And while our firefighters spend their days taking care of the community, it's pretty special that one four-legged member of that community makes it his mission to brighten theirs. And if you ask us, Luke's smile says it all! 🥹

A perfect day to give back to our community!

Today, Station 75 C-Shift joined members of our community to help clean up Bunche Beach!

From answering 911 calls to rolling up their sleeves to keep our community beautiful, our IMFD firefighters are always proud to serve in more ways than one!

Even Lt. Mikey Garcia’s daughter got in on the action, helping her daddy pick up trash along the sand!

Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make a difference!

For the past nine years, Iona McGregor Fire District Community Relations Specialist Megan Contreras has played a small but meaningful role in a powerful tradition of remembrance with the nonprofit organization The Brotherhood Ride.

The Brotherhood Ride is a nonprofit organization made up of firefighters, law enforcement officers, and emergency responders who cycle hundreds of miles each year to honor fallen first responders and ensure their sacrifices are never forgotten. The organization also provides support to the families left behind.

Each year, Megan helps kick off the ride's opening ceremony by reading aloud the names and agencies of every fallen first responder the organization has honored since its inaugural ride in 2008. With each passing year, more names are added to the list, representing more lives, families, and legacies that will never be forgotten.

On Saturday, Megan read the names of 363 fallen first responders.

Over the weekend, The Brotherhood Ride embarked on another journey across Florida. This year's ride, taking place October 17–23, honors 22 Florida first responders who died in the line of duty in 2025. Over the course of a week, riders will cycle approximately 600 miles, stopping at the agencies of the fallen to pay their respects and honor their sacrifices.

While Megan's role may be a small part of this incredible mission, it carries tremendous meaning. Every name deserves to be spoken. Every sacrifice deserves to be remembered. And every family deserves to know their hero has not been forgotten.

We are proud of Megan's continued dedication to this tradition and grateful to The Brotherhood Ride for keeping the memories of our fallen heroes alive.

A New Chapter of Leadership for Iona McGregor!

Every fire department has a story, built by the people who serve, the traditions they uphold, and the commitment they share to protecting their community. On November 1, a new chapter in our story begins.

We are proud to announce Martin Palijan as the next Fire Chief of the Iona McGregor Fire District!

With more than two decades of service to our District, Chief Palijan is no stranger to the people, traditions, and values that make Iona McGregor who we are. His years of dedication and service have helped shape the department he will now lead. Stepping into the role of Fire Chief comes with tremendous responsibility, but also an incredible opportunity to lead, inspire, and shape the future of our District.

As Chief Palijan prepares to take the helm, we look forward to building on the foundation of those who came before him while embracing the opportunities that lie ahead.

Please join us in congratulating Fire Chief Martin Palijan. Here's to our next chapter!

A HUGE THANK YOU to the Greater Fort Myers Dog Club! 🐾

We are incredibly grateful to the Greater Fort Myers Dog Club for their generous $1,000 donation to our girls’ empowerment camp, Camp Brave Heart!

Camp Brave Heart is so much more than a day at the fire station. It’s an opportunity for young girls to build confidence, discover their strengths, develop leadership skills, and learn that they are capable of anything they set their minds to!

Support from community organizations like the Greater Fort Myers Dog Club helps us continue providing this incredible experience at no cost to our campers.

From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU for believing in our mission, investing in the next generation of strong, confident young women, and helping us inspire future leaders!

🛸👽 WE INTERRUPT YOUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED TUESDAY MORNING FOR AN ALIEN INVASION! 🚀🪼

If you looked up at the Florida sky this morning and thought a giant glowing space jellyfish was coming to take over Earth… you're not alone! 😂

Before anyone starts building a bunker or calling 9-1-1, we can confirm that the aliens have NOT landed. 👽

Turns out, it was just this morning's SpaceX rocket launch putting on one heck of a show!

So, why did it look like a giant glowing jellyfish? According to Meteorologist Matt Devitt Weather, the rocket and its exhaust plume were high enough above Earth to catch the sunlight, while those of us on the ground were still in the dark before sunrise. The result? One seriously out-of-this-world sight!

Our firefighters are trained to handle all kinds of emergencies… but we're pretty sure an alien jellyfish invasion isn't covered in the academy. 🤣

📸 Darby Branyon captured this incredible photo right outside our Fire Station 72 this morning!

Just another perfectly normal Tuesday in Florida! 🌴🚀
