FPPD INVESTIGATES FATAL HIT AND RUN - NEED TO IDENTIFY:

The Fort Pierce Police Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a moped/scooter that occurred Sunday, October 11, 2026, in the area of South 25th Street and Okeechobee Road.

At approximately 8:52 p.m., Fort Pierce Police Department officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a crash involving a motorcyclist. Preliminary information indicates that a white box van traveling eastbound on Okeechobee Road struck a blue motorcycle and attempted to flee the scene.

While fleeing, the driver of the van made a U-turn in the eastbound lane, crossed the westbound lanes of traffic, and struck Kings and Queens Unisex Salon, located at 2508 Okeechobee Road. The driver then fled the area northbound on foot.

Upon arrival, officers located the motorcyclist in the outside eastbound lane of Okeechobee Road and determined the individual was deceased. St. Lucie County Fire Rescue responded to the scene.

The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit and Aviation Unit assisted Fort Pierce Police Department officers and K-9 Unit, in efforts to locate the driver. Despite these efforts, the driver has not been located. Two additional vehicles involved in the crash remained at the scene.

The Fort Pierce Police Department's Traffic Homicide Unit, Crime Scene Investigations, and other responding personnel processed the scene as part of the ongoing investigation.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed, and next-of-kin notification is pending confirmation. The driver of the white box van is described as an adult, Hispanic male wearing a dark colored top with light colored pants or shorts. This remains an active investigation.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or the identity or whereabouts of the driver is encouraged to contact the Fort Pierce Police Department at 772-462-6800 or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at www.tcwatch.org. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
