⚠️ PECOS COUNTY WEATHER UPDATE ⚠️
Thursday, October 15

The overnight severe thunderstorm watch has ended, but the National Weather Service Midland/Odessa continues to warn of additional rounds of heavy rainfall and the potential for renewed flash flooding through Friday morning.

Pecos County remains under a Flood Watch until 7:00 AM Friday, October 16.

Additional thunderstorms are expected later today and tonight, and some storms could become strong or severe with damaging winds, large hail, and very heavy rainfall.

Because parts of Pecos County have already received significant rainfall, additional storms could quickly create dangerous conditions at:

β€’ Low-water crossings
β€’ Creeks and draws
β€’ Rural county roads
β€’ Poor-drainage areas
β€’ Locations that have already experienced flooding

Please use extra caution and do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways or around barricades. Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

The Pecos County Sheriff’s Office will continue monitoring weather and road conditions and will provide updates as needed.

⚠️ WEATHER ALERT β€” PECOS COUNTY ⚠️

The State of Texas has activated emergency-response resources ahead of the severe weather and flash-flood threat expected across West Texas.

The National Weather Service Midland/Odessa has placed Pecos County, including Fort Stockton, under a Flood Watch through Friday morning, October 16.

Heavy rainfall may cause flooding of creeks, streams, low-lying areas, rural roads, and low-water crossings.

Current rain and thunderstorm chances for Fort Stockton are approximately:
β€’ 60% tonight
β€’ 70% Wednesday
β€’ 80% Thursday

The Pecos County Sheriff’s Office was proud to participate in Career Day at Fort Stockton High School.

We had the opportunity to visit with students and talk about careers in law enforcement and the many different opportunities available in public safety. It was great to see several students who are interested in possibly pursuing a career in law enforcement.

We always enjoy spending time with our local students, answering their questions, and encouraging them to set goals for their future.

Thank you to Fort Stockton High School for inviting the Pecos County Sheriff’s Office to be part of Career Day. We look forward to seeing some of these young men and women become future law enforcement professionals!
