Another important step forward for the ALS community: The Senate HELP Committee has approved the ACT for ALS Reauthorization Act.

This bipartisan progress reflects the voices of people living with ALS, families, caregivers, clinicians, researchers, and advocates across the country who continue urging Congress to act.

ACT for ALS is helping advance research, support expanded access to investigational therapies, and strengthen the infrastructure needed to move promising treatments forward.

Now Congress needs to finish the job before the current law expires this September.

Last week, Bill and his family joined us at Citizens Bank Park for Lou Gehrig Day, making for a truly special evening. Together, we enjoyed the excitement of the Phillies game and the opportunity to spend meaningful time together.

The day served as a powerful reminder of the importance of ALS awareness and the strength that comes from community and connection. For families like Bill’s, moments like these offer a chance to create lasting memories while being surrounded by others who understand the journey.

We are grateful Bill and his family could be part of this memorable day and a special thank you to the Phillies for making this possible.

We are incredibly grateful to Asplundh for their unwavering commitment to the ALS community.

The generosity shown by Asplundh, the Phillies, and every fan who supported this event helps provide hope, care, and critical resources for people living with ALS and their families. From all of us at ALS United Mid-Atlantic, thank you for standing with our community and helping move the fight against ALS forward. Together, We End ALS.

A powerful night at Citizens Bank Park.

During ALS Awareness Night, alongside the Phillies and their incredible fans, Asplundh helped raise more than $710,000 to support ALS patients and families — including a $415,000 contribution from Asplundh.

One of the most meaningful moments came when longtime Asplundh employee and field supervisor Scotty Easter — who is among 39 members of his family diagnosed with ALS —threw out the ceremonial first pitch, a powerful reminder of why this cause matters so much.

Together, we remain committed to honoring those impacted and continuing the fight to .

ALS United Mid-Atlantic is heartbroken to share that our friend John Russo has passed away after a 13-year battle with ALS. From the earliest days of his diagnosis, John selflessly used his story to fight for others. He advocated to Congress for more funding for ALS research, testified in New Jersey for further support for ALS care programs and he received the 2019 Flame of Hope award for ALS advocacy. John was a leader in the ALS United Mid-Atlantic Research Committee, championing more investments in groundbreaking studies, and a longtime member of the Care Services Committee. This photo from May of this year best highlights John’s relationship with our ALS mission as he was surrounded by members of the ALS community from across the country to advocate for research.

Our thoughts are with John’s wife Loretta and with all who knew and loved him.
