For author Tonya McQuade, that unexpected discovery sparked a journey into her family history. She traced her great-great-great-grandfather’s experiences during the Civil War, explored Missouri’s divided loyalties, and ultimately wrote a book.

The Friends of the Allen County Public Library deserve thanks every day, but especially during National Friends of the Library Week. Their support of the library makes a lot possible, both in activities the patrons see directly and behind the scenes!

The Lincoln at the Library programming has received funding for presentations this year after enjoying great feedback in the past. One patron responded to former lectures, “Please make sure I am on your email list for all future Lincoln or other history-related programs….I would have been very sad to have missed this great talk!”

The Audio Reading Service’s volunteers have also benefited from Friends support. Monica Hadsall, manager, said, “The Friends provide recognition for all ACPL volunteers who generously give their time and energy throughout the system. The Audio Reading Service, in particular, engages over 115 volunteers to read and record newspapers, magazines, and more for people who are unable to see, hold, or understand printed materials.”

Human resources activities also enjoy the benefits of the Friends. Momo Lamping, Employee Experience Coordinator shared, “From our annual Staff Day to everyone's favorite, the annual March madness Co****le Tournament, their support helps ACPL staff connect, celebrate, and build a stronger team.”

Recently, a patron stopped by in this classic ’38 Buick Special to pick up library materials for his mother! The car was awesome, so of course we had to get a photo! 😎

Most ACPL branches offer curbside delivery during these hours:
🕙 Monday–Thursday: 10 a.m.–Noon and 3–6 p.m.
🕙 Friday–Saturday: 10 a.m.–Noon and 3–5 p.m.
