Having cancer takes managing health information and doctor's appointments to a whole new level. A schedule filled with appointments, more medications to manage, and so many questions. The amount of information is simply overwhelming.

When facing a cancer diagnosis, advocating for yourself can help you feel more in control and organized. Leesa Ackerman, a Board Certified Patient Advocate, will share her expertise on advocating for yourself in a medical setting during her upcoming session, 10 Ways to Be Your Own Best Advocate.

You'll walk away knowing how to prepare for medical appointments, organize information, speak up with confidence, and much more.

Through the rest of the year, we’re recognizing the generous businesses who made a year-long commitment to helping local families facing cancer. They have gone above and beyond this year to support our mission.

Thank you to Brotherhood Mutual for supporting Cancer Services! They are incredible and generous neighbors to our Fort Wayne office, supporting us year-round in so many different ways.

Understanding that you’re not alone can make all the difference during your cancer journey. Support groups connect you with others who get it and share similar experiences.

Cancer Services offers multiple support groups, many with virtual attendance options. Support group meetings typically include an expert speaker on a relevant topic and time for sharing and assistance.

NEXT WEEK! Every 3 minutes or so, one person in the United States is diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma. Scientific advances in treating these conditions and other hematological malignancies are crucial for helping those impacted by these diagnoses.

You're invited to hear Dr. Sreenivasa Nattam, MD, speak during Advances in Treatment for Hematological Malignancies and Solid Tumors on Monday, October 26 or Thursday, October 29. There will be time for questions after his presentation.

Cancer Services offers a variety of free, ongoing wellness classes which meet weekly. These classes include Tai Chi, yoga, strength building, and more. Most of the classes we offer have been proven beneficial for people with cancer through clinical studies.

We know how expensive gym, yoga, and other exercise studio memberships can be, especially on a budget strained by cancer. Thanks to donor generosity, we can offer these classes free of charge. No long-term commitment is necessary, and if you really like a class, you can attend an unlimited number of times.

Our Director of Wellness and Education, Lauren Richwine, is leading a session to walk you through the types of classes, how they benefit you, what to expect when you attend, and answer any questions you have.

Save your spot online at https://cancer-services.org/event/start-here-explore-your-free-wellness-programs-at-cancer-services/ or call (260) 484-9560.

Do you want to help people who are dealing with a cancer diagnosis but aren’t sure what is most helpful? Or do you have some free time in your schedule that you are looking to fill with something meaningful and fulfilling?

Volunteering with Cancer Services is the answer! We have an urgent and immediate need for volunteers who care about people with cancer and want to do something to help their community.

Volunteer opportunities include:
- Driving people with cancer to life-saving treatment appointments
- Hand-sewing cancer bed pads, provided at no cost to people experiencing incontinence
- In-office administrative or event-related tasks
- And more!

Our Volunteer Coordinator, Sandra Logan, can plug you into the volunteer role that best matches your availability and talent. You can submit your interest online at https://www.cancer-services.org/get-involved/volunteer/ or contact Sandra directly at 260-484-9560.
