Wander past the koi ponds, pause beneath the Japanese maples, and let a calming guided experience deepen your time in one of the most peaceful corners of the Garden 🍃

The prickly pear cacti tucked into the bio swales located throughout our parking lot are currently in bloom!
 
Bio swales are vegetated channels that slow and filter stormwater before it reaches our waterways. We’ve planted ours with native, drought-tolerant species like the prickly pear to turn them into a restorative habitat for pollinators and other important critters 🌿

Something big is taking shape in the Garden 🦊
Installation is officially underway for Sean Kenney’s Nature POP! Made with LEGO Bricks, and we’re getting our first look at the colorful creatures arriving on site 🌿
 
More than 40 sculptures, built from over 800,000 LEGO bricks, are being tucked throughout the Garden. A panther mid-stride, a fox on the prowl, a mama bear and her cub, and dozens more are waiting to be discovered beginning May 22.

A little Garden history for you 🐘
In 1931, the first phase of Rock Springs Park, which would later become the Fort Worth Botanic Garden, was under construction. But the crew ran into a problem: the newly shaped Reflecting Pond at the bottom of the Rose Ramp simply would not hold water. City forester Raymond C. Morrison later recalled that workers “tried to make a pond where a spring had made a watering hole on a cattle trail, but it wouldn’t hold water.”

The solution was unexpectedly charming. Queen Tut, a beloved elephant from the was brought over to wallow in the pond. Her weight packed down the soil step by step and the water from the Rock Springs Area lagoons finally stayed!

Nearly a century later, you can still enjoy the waterfalls, spillways, and the calming Reflecting Pond that she helped make possible right here at FWBG 🌿
