On December 9, 2024, Howard's life changed in an instant. At just 40 years old, he went into sudden cardiac arrest. But thanks to the quick response of our incredible first responders—including our MedStars, Kayla Harkrider and Caleb Marbut—Howard made a full recovery.
Yesterday, Howard sat alongside our MedStar's to share his powerful story in a survivor panel discussion with 1st-year students at TCU Burnett School of Medicine. His journey is a testament to the lifesaving impact of emergency response and medical training.
💙 This is why we do what we do!

Congratulation to Lieutenant Donna York and Battalion Chief Sherri Hauch!
🚨 Ice Storm Warning from Your Friendly MedStar Ambulance Crews 🚨
Hey, remember that time you thought about venturing outside in this ice storm? Yeah, us neither. 🤔
The roads? Oh, they’re basically auditioning to be the next Olympic ice skating rink, and trust us—your car wasn’t built for this kind of triple axel action. 🏎️❄️
So, here’s the game plan: Stay inside, stay cozy, and absolutely do NOT let the snacks know you’re home. (They’re clingy. 🍕🍫)
PRO TIP: The couch is currently the safest place in the world. No one’s ever called 911 for slipping on their couch… yet 😉 but if they did, we’d recommend they use alternative resources like telehealth or their primary care MD. Stay safe, y’all!

Honoring Our Past. Forging Our Future!
At MedStar, we are embarking on a transformative journey—one that embraces change and builds a stronger, unified future alongside the Fort Worth Fire Department.
We understand that for many, including our current and former employees, this period of change brings mixed emotions—grief, hope, and everything in between. And that’s okay. Together, we can move forward with resilience, strength, and wisdom, shaping a golden standard that will guide us through this transition.
New processes and new designs symbolize so much more than change. They represent:
🌟 Rising Above challenges,
💪 Resilience in the face of uncertainty,
🏆 Strength in unity, and
🧠 Wisdom drawn from our collective experiences.
To those who support this evolution, we thank you for standing with us. For those unsure, we only ask for understanding as both teams work tirelessly to ensure a smooth transition over the coming months.
Change is never easy, but together, we can be better. Together, we are stronger. Let’s rise above and set the standard for excellence.

✨ It’s not every day we get the chance to reunite with the patients we care for, but yesterday was truly special!
Over the summer, MedStar’s own Zachary Melman and Christopher Lehman answered a 9-1-1 call to help a young lady in need. But what made this call stand out wasn’t just the care they provided the patient; it was the compassion, kindness, and playfulness they showed to her young daughter during a difficult moment. 💙
Yesterday, these two had the honor of reuniting with the family, a reminder of the powerful bonds that often form in moments of care and support. It’s these connections that fuel our commitment to serve every day.

🌟 The Great Save! 🌟
This morning, our incredible Medstars, James Edward Ward and Cassidy Holmes, took part in a powerful panel discussion at the 14th Annual JPS Trauma Symposium highlighting the life-saving care they provided to a critical trauma patient. 🙌
As part of a large, dedicated medical team, their expertise and teamwork played a key role in saving a life—and for that, we couldn’t be more proud! 💙
To all of our healthcare heroes, there may be days when you question whether what you do matters. Let this be a reminder: It absolutely does! Every life you touch makes a world of difference. 👏

Some calls hit a little different...
On September 2nd, MedStar and the Fort Worth Fire Department responded to a call for a 4-year-old who had fallen from a second story. This call was different because the patient was the son of one of our own.
As first responders, we spend countless hours training, have a few minutes to mentally prepare for the calls we are dispatched to, and rely on our team and equipment to help us handle the situation. But nothing prepares us when the emergency hits close to home.
Today, we were honored to witness a heartwarming reunion as young Corbin met with our call taker, Evan Lantz, and the crew from FWFD Engine 9 who took care of him that day. Honorable mention to the ambulance crew who took care of Corbin that day but were unable to reunite, Nassandra Wright and Felipe Grande. Moments like these remind us why we do what we do. Thank you to our dedicated first responders who go above and beyond, and especially when it's one of our own.
