It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Fort Worth Police Officer Brian Gentry, #3403.

Officer Gentry, who joined the department in 2004, was assigned to the Fugitive Unit as a U.S. Marshal’s Task Force Officer. On October 20, 2026, while on duty, he suffered a medical emergency and was taken to a local hospital, where he was admitted to the ICU. He passed away on October 21, 2026.

Brian was a dedicated officer and a valued member of the Fort Worth Police Department family. The loss of one of our own is deeply felt by those who served alongside him, and our hearts go out to his family, loved ones, and fellow officers during this difficult time.

The Fort Worth Police Officers Association stands with Officer Gentry’s family and the entire department. We will continue to support them in the days and weeks ahead as they navigate this loss.

Yesterday, responded to Frank Kent Cadillac following reports of multiple electric vehicles on fire.

Upon arrival, Engine 23 and Quint 23 found six vehicles involved with several more in close proximity. Due to the unique challenges associated with electric vehicle fires, crews worked through the night to bring the situation under control and ensure the scene was safe.

Electric vehicle fires present additional challenges for firefighters, including the potential for battery thermal runaway, extreme heat, and the risk of reignition. These incidents often require additional resources, specialized tactics, and significant amounts of water.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported and the cause remains under investigation.

This weekend, members of were honored to stand alongside our IAFF brothers and sisters at the Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial.

This year, 288 names were added to the Wall of Honor, each representing a firefighter, a family, a department, and a Local that has experienced an incredible loss.

We were there to stand with those families and our brothers and sisters from across the IAFF as they honored and remembered their fallen.

We are grateful to the Local 440 members who made the trip and proudly represented Fort Worth. Taking the time to be there matters. It is a reminder that the fire service is much bigger than any one department or Local.

We remember those who came before us. We honor their service and sacrifice. And we stand beside the families and firefighters who continue to carry their memory.

Tomorrow, Your Fort Worth Professional Firefighters will have the honor of standing alongside firefighters, families and loved ones from across the country as 288 fallen firefighters are added to the memorial wall.

Each name represents a life of service, a family forever changed and a sacrifice that will never be forgotten.
We will be there to honor their memory, recognize their service and stand with the families and departments who carry their legacy forward.

Please join us in remembering these 288 firefighters and all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities.

Today, we could not be more proud of two of our own.

FW Firefighters Caleb Halvorson and James “J.B.” Huddleston were honored by the State of Texas with the Star of Texas Award, recognizing first responders who have been seriously injured or killed in the line of duty.
Both Caleb and J.B. suffered serious injuries while doing what they had sworn to do... protect the citizens of Fort Worth.
In June 2024, J.B. was seriously burned while battling a house fire when rapidly changing conditions forced firefighters to escape from the second story. His injuries resulted in nearly a month of treatment at Parkland’s Burn Unit.
In September 2025, Caleb was critically injured when a garage collapsed on him while fighting a house fire. Trapped beneath burning debris, Caleb was rescued by his fellow firefighters and flown to Parkland, beginning a long journey that has included extensive burns, multiple surgeries and months of rehabilitation.
Their injuries remind us of the very real risks firefighters face every time they answer the call. Their recoveries have also shown us something else, incredible strength, determination and the importance of our firefighter family.
Today, Governor Greg Abbott and the State of Texas recognized their sacrifice with one of our state’s highest honors for first responders.
To Caleb, J.B., and their families, your Local 440 family is incredibly proud of you. We have stood beside you through some incredibly difficult days, and we are honored to stand beside you today as the State of Texas recognizes your courage and sacrifice.
Congratulations, brothers. This recognition is well deserved.

Today we remember September 11, 2001.
On this day, 2,977 lives were lost, including 343 firefighters who ran toward danger and gave everything in the service of others.
Their courage, sacrifice, and devotion to duty will never be forgotten.
As , we honor their memory, their families, and the countless others who continue to bear the weight of that tragic day.

Labor Day is also a reminder of what working people can accomplish when we stand together, fighting for safe workplaces, fair wages, strong benefits, and a better future for our families.
