Moonlight African Violet & Gesneriad Society - MAVGS

The Moonlight African Violet and Gesneriad Society will be having a show and sale on Saturday, April 18, 2026. The sale will be from 9am to 4pm and the show will be from 1pm to 4pm. The event will be at the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens at 3220 Botanic Garden Blvd. in Fort Worth, Tx. We will be celebrating 50 years of growing African Violets.

I got a miniature Streptocarpus Dale's Flock of Sparrows at the Dallas Metro African Violet show and sale. They had such a nice selection of plants .

Orchard's Bumble Magnet is "tried and true." It grows so symmetrical and blooms it's heart out for you. Today I need to take off all the blooms and let it rest and focus on its foliage to prepare it for a show in April. It's so hard to pluck off all the pink blooms!

Little Blue Bandit is showing some variations in the blue of each bloom. I wonder if that is typical for this hybrid.

The Moonlight African Violet and Gesneriad Society (MAVGS) will be participating in the BRIT plant sale on Friday, October 3, 2025 from 2pm to 6pm and Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 9am to 2pm. The sale is outside in the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens in the area called The Grove which is accessed from the West I30 service road. Shown are some of the plants that will be available for purchase. Come early for the best selection.

Streptocarpus Kim: I bought this at the sale organized by the three Dallas area African Violet Societies. I learned so much from talking to Dianne Miller and will be sharing this and more at our club meeting at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden Moncreif building Camilia room this Thursday at 7 PM. Be there on time to join the plant raffle.

Orchard's Bumble Magnet is a miniature African Violet with Maximum Blooms. It commonly has a very symmetric leaf pattern. Wish I had a show this weekend!

Our friends in Dallas have their African Violet and Gesneriad sale at North Haven Gardens in Dallas today and tomorrow! That is 7700 Northaven Road! Lots of beautiful plants!

Even with a downpour of rain, our meeting inside the Moncrief Center at Fort Worth Botanic Gardens was a success. Bonnie Harris presented the program on "Dividing Baby Violets" from the mother leaf and shared a wealth of knowledge and baby African violets to the club. Pam Brannon shared her abundant stock of baby plants that were mostly miniature violets.
At each meeting we have a .50 cent plant raffle. The raffle for plants distributed at least 50 plants, and leaves, of gesneriads and violets. We all carried so many treasured baby violets home with us.
Come join us September 25th at 7:00pm at our next meeting.

Looking forward to our meeting tonight at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden at the Moncrief center. We meet on the 4th Thursday night of the month in the Camilla room from 7:00pm to 9:00pm

Fort Worth Botanic Garden will have their plant sale Oct. 3rd and 4th. We will have our table with violets and other Gesneriad plants for sale. Come by to visit our table and we can share a wealth of knowledge about growing these African violets.
