⚠️ McCordsville & Fortville ⚠️

As you have likely seen by now, CSX will be doing crossing maintenance on ALL crossings near SR 67 / Broadway. All crossings will be closed EXCEPT 700 West / Carroll Road and Main St (Fortville) crossing. When each crossing closes (and for how long) is not known to us. It is dependent on how quickly they can do the work.

This will undoubtedly be problematic for many commuters. This is a CSX project and did not involve any Hancock County agencies in planning. We will try our best to update our posts with the closings and openings in a timely fashion.

This week has been pretty amazing! I'm going to share my personal experience here from this past week.

First I had the unfortunate call to an accident involving injuries while taking my son to school. Yes this is a terrible situation and thankfully all parties were able to walk away from this accident. What I did see while I was there was Hancock County Sheriff's Department deputies, Indiana State Police troopers, the Shirley Police department Chief of Police, Eastern Hancock School Resource officers, Charlottesville fire personnel, Johnson's towing, Inmans towing all working together to ensure the safety of everyone involved. No egos, no trash talk just people who genuinely care about their community and the persons who live in it. I'm sure there were others there so I'm sorry if I missed anyone. The amount of people who stopped and asked if they could help was overwhelming. Thank you to my son's friend's mother who took my son to school since I was going to be there for a bit. This was an unfortunate circumstance but to see everyone come together to help strangers in need truly shows the amount of pride and care for each other we have in Hancock County.

Secondly, I want to thank the Fortville area churches for coming together to provide the Fortville Police department and the Vernon Township Fire department a meal last evening. I appreciate what they did. It was a great night of fellowship and faith. The food was amazing and we are very grateful you took the time out of your busy schedules to provide for us. Again, it shows why Hancock County is a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

Third, the Blazer 88 Foundation provided the department with gift cards as an appreciation token for helping them with their motorcycle ride. We don't do what we do because we expect anything in return. We do it because we genuinely care about our community. Blazer 88 helps Veterans in need and it's our way of helping those veterans also. Thank you to Josh Ward and the Blazer 88 Foundation for doing what you do.

🚔⭐ Congratulations, Officer Haynes! ⭐🚔

Please join us in congratulating Officer Haynes on being named a Traffic Safety All-Star by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute!

Today at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Chief Bratton and Officer Haynes joined officers from across Indiana who were recognized for their outstanding work in combating impaired driving.

In 2025, Officer Haynes made 57 arrests for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI), helping keep impaired drivers off the roads and making Fortville a safer place for everyone.

Thank you, Officer Haynes, for your dedication to traffic safety and for keeping intoxicated drivers off Fortville streets! 👏🚔

Today, we remember.

We remember all the lives lost 25 years ago on this day.
We remember the first responders who ran toward danger.
We remember the countless acts of heroism and selflessness.
We remember the strength, courage, and unity that followed.

25 years later, we continue to honor those we lost and those who answered the call.

We never forgret🇺🇸

Over the past week, FPD has had the pleasure of taking part in several of our community’s great events!

We had the opportunity to es**rt two motorcycle rides for two great causes: Kammy's Kause and Blazer 88 Foundation. We’re proud to support these organizations and the important work they do supporting our veterans and families with 4p- children!

We also had the chance to spend some time with the kindergarten classes at Fortville Elementary School! The students learned about what police do and got to check out some of our cool gear while they learned about various community helpers!
