OCWD has been named Sustainable Government of the Year by Sustain SoCal, recognizing the District’s leadership in environmental stewardship, sustainable water management and effective use of local resources.

“OCWD stands out for turning sustainability into measurable results,” said Scott Kitcher, president and CEO of Sustain SoCal. “Its work demonstrates how a public agency can strengthen water reliability, use resources wisely and deliver meaningful environmental benefits, while also building strong public-private partnerships that help advance innovative solutions.”

Over the last two days, 0.94 inches of rain was measured at our field headquarters in Anaheim. This brings our total rainfall for the water year to 2.1 inches, nearly three times the average. We’re also capturing all water being released from Prado Dam. Kudos to our recharge staff for turning this rainfall into valuable water supply.

OCWD is working with the City of Newport Beach to support coastal storm preparations by providing sand for emergency sandbags and coordinating additional deliveries ahead of upcoming storms. Newport Beach is one of 19 retail water agencies served by OCWD, and the District has previously provided mutual aid to the city when needed. These efforts complement OCWD’s storm preparations, including increasing recharge capacity, strengthening water infrastructure, and coordinating with regional partners to maximize stormwater capture.

“Wastewater recycling has been proven. Orange County has been doing it for two decades.” - L.A. Waterkeeper

That message was highlighted in a recent PBS SoCal story showcasing OCWD’s leadership in water reuse and the development of local water supplies. The Groundwater Replenishment System (GWRS) is an important part of how OCWD sustainably manages the Orange County Groundwater Basin and supports a reliable, high-quality water supply for 2.5 million people in north and central Orange County. ♻️💧
