On Sunday September 6 at 2:22pm, a FFD Asst. Chief received a private line call regarding a possible fire near the intersection of N. Litchfield St and W. Main St. As he was calling it in, 911 was receiving the call as well. Enroute to the firehouse he requested Ilion and Frankfort Center for an engine company.

Frankfort Car 1 (Chief Matt Palumbo) arrived with heavy fire from the D side wall impinging on the corner, three-story building and heavy smoke from the roof line declared a working fire and establish Litchfield command. There were reports of possibly children and animals in the residence truck 404 crews entered through a second story window and performed a rapid primary search. Simultaneously members began an aggressive fire attack. Engine 149 crews led by AC Marcus Perritano and IFD also proceeded to the second floor. All primary searches proved to be negative. The property owner arrived and advised there were no animals in the residence and all occupants were accounted for.

The crew from squad 501 entered the corner building and had no fire extension into that building. The crew on the second floor began to open up walls on the D side and encountered heavy fire and extinguished it. The crew from Truck 404 made its way to the roof, which was a steel roof with multiple layovers. They worked diligently to open up the roof and encountered several pockets of fire and extinguished them. Schuyler assisted with overhaul and salvage operations.

Due to the building’s location in a narrow street power was cut to a portion of the village to allow for firefighting operations. Our thanks to the crew from Frankfort Power and Light for their quick response and work.

Thankfully, there were no injuries reported. OFPC was called to conduct the investigation.

We’d like to thank our Mutual aid companies from Ilion, FCFD, Schuyler, EHFD and MOVAC It’s always reassuring that our neighboring departments are there to help when we need. We will always reciprocate for you when called upon.
