Kindness Counts! 💙
We feel so lucky to have such amazing staff members who care for our students. Two of our custodians at the Early Learning Village noticed that some kids weren't able to purchase a book at the book fair. Using their own money, they made sure those students could purchase a book they were excited about and take it home 📚

Thank you, Mr. Juan and Mr. Avram! Your generosity is what makes Franklin County Schools so special.

As we wrap up School Bus Safety Week, we want to give a big shout-out to the staff behind the wheel. Our bus drivers are dedicated to keeping our kids safe on and off the bus, and we couldn't be more grateful for the work they do!

As we kick off , we are highlight a project that tackles one of the biggest health concerns facing students today: va**ng. WHHS School Resource Officer, Mike Johnson wanted to take a more direct, eye-opening approach to showing students the dangers and realities of va**ng.

Students and law enforcement working together display severe dental and skin damage, irreversible lung damage, and v**e explosions. There is also a spot for students to write their name and take the pledge not to v**e. Officer Johnson wanted the students to be directly involved so the message hits home.

“The biggest dangers of va**ng are that we don't know what's really in them,” said Officer Johnson. “The majority of va**ng devices are made overseas. We see students getting sick in school from using them. They are extremely addictive due to the high dosage of ni****ne chemicals, and it’s scary that they can already be doing permanent damage to their lungs.”

The bulletin board is only the beginning. Students in Health and Emergency Procedure classes will be creating bulletins in the future, focusing on the dangers of THC v**es and gummies.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department encourages families to network with school staff and law enforcement to discourage the use of v**es and educate them on the dangers associated with va**ng. For additional resources, visit https://digitalmedia.hhs.gov/tobacco/educator_hub.

Each month, the Early Learning Village is welcoming a group within our district for a “Thankful Thursday” event. Today, ELV hosted the transportation team. Our bus drivers and monitors also left with a handmade project crafted by the students!

⏰ This is your early morning reminder to watch for school buses as they take our students to school. Please stop for red flashing lights, slow down in the school zones, and stay alert. Thank you, Franklin County, for helping to keep our kids safe!

Bus safety is a team effort! We encourage our families to talk with their kids about bus safety and the important role students play in ensuring a safe ride. Getting our students to and from their destinations safely is a responsibility we all share. Thank you, Franklin County, for staying alert, stopping for flashing red lights, and using extra caution around school buses and in school zones.

We are excited to announce the grand opening of the newly renovated Flyer Credit Union (FCU) at Franklin County High School (Frankfort, Kentucky). Developed in partnership with Commonwealth Credit Union (CCU), the facility marks an exciting milestone for FCHS students and staff.

The initiative for the updated space took shape last spring when CCU leadership and FCHS business and marketing faculty decided to partner in a way that would benefit both. The goal was to develop a long-term solution: transforming the FCU into a fully operational small branch of CCU.

Officially known as Flyer Credit Union (FCU), it provides hands-on career experience for students in the school. The FCU is operated by students in FCHS’s Financial Services class, who earn course credit for their work. The students manage day-to-day transactions and also serve as the credit union’s Board of Directors. Twice a month, the students meet alongside CCU personnel to oversee the branch operations, policies, and procedures.

This school-based enterprise marks the first credit union branch by CCU inside a K-12 school. It is open to all FCHS students and staff during lunch periods Monday through Friday, except on Wednesdays. For $1.00, any student or staff can open a membership account and access services, including savings accounts, loan applications, and check cashing.

“Franklin County High School and, in particular, the business and marketing department has been beyond blessed to have enjoyed a tremendously rewarding partnership and sponsorship with Commonwealth Credit Union over the last several years,” said Tracy Spickard, Business Teacher. “Their executives and school credit union team, led by Mary Gabbard, have poured countless hours and heart-filled investment into our students at FCHS to teach, train, and mentor them in such a way that they not only prepare them for their positions and operation at the FCU, but well beyond to pave the way into lifelong learning and opportunity.”

“Commonwealth Credit Union is proud to support Flyer Credit Union and partner with Franklin County High School to bring financial education to life for students. While some students gain hands-on experience learning the basics of operating a credit union, the impact reaches the entire student body, helping students understand the value of saving, making smart financial choices, and building healthy financial habits that can last a lifetime,” said Karen Harbin, Commonwealth Credit Union President/CEO.

At the awards reception, New Vista stated, “What makes this partnership especially impactful is the level of engagement across the entire district. From central office administration to individual school staff, Franklin County Schools has fostered a culture of collaboration that makes it possible to connect students and families with the support they need.”

It's America's Safe Schools Week, and we are shining the spotlight on our School Resource Officers (SROs). Not only do our SROs keep our buildings safe, but they are mentors, coaches, and positive role models to our students. We are so thankful to have them and appreciate everything they do!
