Safer work zones ahead!

This fall, seven more hybrid speed enforcement cameras are being deployed, adding to the five already operating in work zones across Kentucky. We also added 50 Automated Flagger Assistance Devices (AFADs) this summer, bringing the statewide total to 120.

With projects still in active construction zones statewide, here’s what you can do:

🚧Put the phone down
🚧Stay alert
🚧Watch for workers!

Unlike Regina’s all-carb diet, roundabouts are backed by results.

They improve safety and promote smoother traffic flow by slowing vehicles, reducing stops and conflict points, and eliminating many left-turn movements found at traditional intersections. KYTC data shows roundabouts can reduce crashes by 37%, fatal crashes by 90%, and injury crashes by 75%.

Learn how they work here: https://transportation.ky.gov/saferoadsolutions/Pages/Roundabouts.aspx

Welcome back to another Friday Flashback, where we look at the U.S. 51 Cairo Ohio River Bridge! 🌉

Built in 1938, the bridge is the longest in Kentucky at 5,865 feet in length. Due to the existing bridge deck being only 22.5 feet wide, with narrow 10-foot lanes and no pedestrian traffic, a replacement bridge is in the works to meet the latest national highway safety design standards.

The replacement tied-arch bridge will be a 40-foot-wide bridge that features 8-foot shoulders (an improvement over the current 1.25-foot shoulder). This two-lane bridge will also support bicycle traffic. Construction is anticipated to start in 2029.

🚧 $85 million secured to move a long-planned vision forward!
We’re thrilled to have secured an $85 million federal INFRA grant for the Somerset Northern Bypass — an 8-mile, 70 mph, four-lane highway that will extend the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Expressway east, closing a critical gap that completes a key east-west connection across southern Kentucky.
The decades-in-the-making project in Pulaski County will help improve safety, ease congestion, and support tourism and commerce.

The deer are back, and they still be deering! 👀

Deer are especially active from October through December, particularly around dawn and dusk. Slow down, stay alert, and keep your eyes on the road.

Remember: If you see one deer, there may be more behind it.

Tailgating is a fantastic way to spend a game day in the bluegrass, but continuing the party on the roads is a quick way to ruin your life. 🚓
