🚒Meet Your Heroes🚑—Employee Spotlight📢: Firefighter, Kaden Kee

This month, we would like to spotlight Firefighter Kaden Kee, who has been a valued member of the Heard County Fire & Emergency Services team for the past year and five months. Kaden brings a team-oriented attitude to his role and is always looking for opportunities to learn, gain experience, and become a greater asset to the department.

Kaden currently holds his Firefighter I certification and Hazmat Operations and Awareness certifications and is currently taking an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) class. As someone who is still building his experience in the fire service, Kaden considers his biggest contribution right now to be simply being there for his fellow firefighters and helping wherever he is needed. He understands that the more he learns, the more he will be able to contribute.

When asked about a notable accomplishment or success story, Kaden's answer was simple: "I'm still working on that." With his willingness to learn and his goal of continuing to advance in the fire service, we're sure there are plenty of accomplishments ahead. His long-term goal is to become a paramedic, continuing to build his knowledge and skills so he can better serve the community.

One of the things Kaden enjoys most about working for the department is the opportunity to share a shift with his C-Shift crew. He says his fellow firefighters make work feel like home. That sense of camaraderie also extends beyond the firehouse, with one of his favorite department memories being working out with the guys at Station 1 after training.

Outside of the fire department, Kaden has some interests that might surprise you. Music is a big part of his life. He is a member of a hardcore band called Echolalia, and the band recently completed its first tour. Kaden says he is "in love with it," and it's clear that making music is something he truly enjoys. He also competes in Jiu-Jitsu and trains in both Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai.

And if being a firefighter, training in Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai, touring with a hardcore band, and making music isn't enough to keep him busy, Kaden and his girlfriend also have an Atlanta-based booking company that helps book local metal bands for shows. Talk about having a few things going on!

Kaden has been with his girlfriend for more than two years, and family is also an important part of his life. He has one brother and one sister, along with what he describes as wonderful parents. One thing that makes him especially proud is that his younger brother wants to follow in his footsteps after watching Kaden go through rookie school.

We are proud to have Kaden as part of the Heard County Fire & Emergency Services family. His willingness to learn, support his fellow firefighters, and continue growing in the fire service makes him a valuable part of the team. We look forward to watching him continue to develop his skills and work toward his goal of becoming a paramedic.

Thank you for your dedication and service, Kaden!

FALL BACK — Daylight Saving Time Ends
“CHANGE YOUR CLOCK, CHANGE YOUR BATTERIES”
As residents prepare to “fall back” one hour when Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 2 a.m., Heard County Fire Chief Jim Short is using the occasion to remind everyone to change the batteries in their home smoke alarms.
A properly installed and maintained smoke alarm is one of the most important safety devices in your home. It can alert you and your family to a fire 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Whether you are awake or asleep, a working smoke alarm remains on alert for signs of fire and smoke.
According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), almost two-thirds of home fire deaths resulted from fires in properties without a working smoke alarm. A working smoke alarm can give individuals and their loved ones an early warning, helping them escape a potentially deadly home fire. It can also help protect firefighters by alerting residents to danger before firefighters must enter a burning home to search for occupants.
The NFPA provides the following guidelines for smoke alarms:
• Test smoke alarms at least once a month using the test button.
• Make sure everyone in the home recognizes the sound of the smoke alarm and knows how to respond.
• Replace all smoke alarms when they are 10 years old or are not functioning properly.
• Smoke alarms with nonreplaceable, long-life batteries are designed to remain effective for up to 10 years. If the alarm chirps to warn that the battery is low, replace the entire smoke alarm immediately.
• For smoke alarms with other types of batteries, replace the batteries at least once a year. If the alarm chirps, replace the battery.
As you set your clocks back tonight, Sunday, 11/1/2026, take a few minutes to check your smoke alarms and make sure your family is prepared. A working smoke alarm can make a life-saving difference.

🎃👻 HAVE A SAFE & HAPPY HALLOWEEN, HEARD COUNTY! 👻🎃

A message from Heard County Fire & Emergency Services / Heard County EMA

Y’all have a spooktacular Halloween! 🧡🖤 As our little ghosts and goblins head out for trick-or-treating and families gather for Halloween festivities, we want everyone to have a fun-filled night and, most importantly, make it home safely!

A few simple safety reminders can help keep Halloween fun for everyone:

🎃 FOR PARENTS & TRICK-OR-TREATERS
🕸️ Choose costumes, wigs, and accessories labeled as flame-resistant.
🔦 Carry a flashlight and use reflective tape or glow sticks to help children be seen after dark.
👻 Choose face paint or makeup instead of masks that can obstruct vision. Test makeup on a small area of skin first, and remove it before bedtime.
🍬 Have an adult inspect treats before children eat them, and check labels for potential food allergens.
🚶 Walk on sidewalks when available, cross streets at corners or crosswalks, look both ways, and put electronic devices away while walking.
🧡 A responsible adult should accompany young children. Remind children never to enter a stranger’s home or vehicle.

🚗 FOR MOTORISTS
⚠️ Slow down and stay alert in residential neighborhoods.
⚠️ Watch carefully for children who may unexpectedly enter the roadway.
⚠️ Use extra caution when entering or exiting driveways and alleys.
⚠️ Avoid distracted driving and never drive impaired.

🔥 FOR HALLOWEEN PARTIES & BONFIRES
🔥 Never use gasoline to start or accelerate a fire. Gasoline vapors can ignite explosively.
🔥 Keep a safe distance from bonfires and other open flames.
🚒 If clothing catches fire, remember: STOP, DROP, AND ROLL!
🍻 If your Halloween celebration includes alcohol, plan a sober ride home.

🧡 Let's all do our part to make Halloween a night full of treats, laughter, and wonderful memories—not preventable emergencies.

From our family at Heard County Fire & Emergency Services and Heard County EMA to yours, we wish all the citizens of Heard County a SAFE, HAPPY, and SPOOKTACULAR HALLOWEEN! 🎃👻🚒

Stay alert. Stay safe. Look out for one another!
