Ranger Erin is highlighting some of the signs of fall in our nature parks! 🌼🍂 Goldenrod is still providing an important food source for pollinators, while other wildflowers have gone to seed, giving birds and other wildlife something to snack on. Nature keeps giving, even as the seasons change! 🐝🐦

Black walnut trees are a familiar sight in our nature parks, especially as they begin to show off their distinctive leaves and walnuts.

These native trees provide food and habitat for wildlife while adding to the diversity of our local forests. 🌳

Next time you’re out on the trails, keep an eye out for these impressive trees!

Spotted those tall purple flowers on your recent walks? 💜 Meet Ironweed—one of our favorite native late-summer wildflowers!

While its rich color catches your eye along the roadsides and trails, it’s also doing big work for our local ecosystem. Ironweed provides essential pollen for bees, butterflies, and moths, and acts as a host plant for developing larvae.

Stop by Peacock Hill Nature Park this week to see Ironweed in bloom along with our other late-summer flora! See you on the trail! 🌿✨

Middle Tennessee’s skies are home to some incredible native birds of prey, including the Bald Eagle and Turkey Vulture! 🦅

Female Bald Eagles lead in size with wingspans over 7 feet long—making live hunting easier for them while males scavenge more often. Meanwhile, Turkey Vultures boast a 5.5-foot wingspan and an extraordinary sense of smell, allowing them to detect food from over a mile away.

Keep an eye on the skies on your next park visit!

Huge shoutout to Troop #15! 👏 Scouting America members recently completed an incredible Eagle Scout project at Timberland Park, giving some much-needed care to the Nancy Conway Trail—our longest trail and a main access route through the park.

The troop worked hard to repair trail damage caused by fallen trees and erosion, making foot traffic smoother and safer for everyone heading out for a hike. Thank you, Troop #15, for helping us keep our parks beautiful and accessible! 🥾🌲
