🌞 With another stretch of extreme heat upon us, now is the perfect time to check in on the older adults in your life.

While everyone should take precautions, older adults are at greater risk for heat-related illness. We've attached resources from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Aging & Independence that include:
πŸ’œ Signs and symptoms of heat-related illness
πŸ’œ Tips for staying cool and hydrated
πŸ’œ A caregiver check-in checklist
πŸ’œ Information about financial assistance for air conditioning
πŸ’œ A heat preparedness checklist

A quick phone call, visit, or offer of a ride to an air-conditioned space can make all the difference.

As always, if you need a cool place to spend part of the day, the Franklin Senior Center is open and happy to welcome you. Stay safe, Franklin! πŸ’œ

Stay safe, stay cool, and don't hesitate to stop by the Franklin Senior Center (regardless of age!) if you need a place to escape the heat. Please remember to check in on older neighbors, friends, and loved ones. ❀️

🌑️🚨 Extreme Heat Warning in Effect

If you're making plans for the July 4th holiday, be sure to plan for the heat, too.

The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for Wednesday, July 1, through Saturday, July 4, with dangerously hot temperatures and high humidity expected in Franklin and across much of Massachusetts.

Need a place to cool off? The Franklin Public Library, Franklin Senior Center, and New England Chapel will be open as cooling centers. See the graphic for locations and hours.

Remember to:
πŸ’§ Drink plenty of water.
❄️ Stay in air-conditioned spaces whenever possible.
🌞 Limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
πŸš— Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle.
🐾 Keep pets cool with plenty of water and shade, and avoid walking them on hot pavement.
🀝 Check on older adults, neighbors, friends, and loved ones who may be more vulnerable to the heat.
