On September 30, representatives from HCA Sky Ridge Medical Center joined us at Station 181 to recognize the FFPD crew involved in a June 14 stroke call. Through early recognition, appropriate treatment, and rapid transport, the crew played an important role in an exceptionally positive patient outcome — the patient was ultimately discharged home.

This call is a powerful example of the Chain of Survival and what can happen when partners work together. From Douglas County 911 Dispatch, to FFPD responders, to our partners at Sky Ridge Medical Center, every link matters. Early recognition, coordinated response, quality patient care, and seamless communication across agencies can make a life-changing difference.

Congratulations to Engine 181 — Phillip Woodrick, Alex Ebaugh, and Cody Vergara — and Medic 184 — Paramedic Zach Stickley and Dan Chase. We are proud of the care you provided and grateful for the partnership with Douglas County 911 and Sky Ridge Medical Center. This is what working together to serve our community looks like.

A big thank you to CORE Electric Cooperative for coming out and helping Franktown Fire responders better understand how to safely handle electrical emergencies.

Franktown Fire is an all-hazard emergency response agency, and we value the opportunity to work alongside our utility partners to keep our firefighters—and our community—safe.

With electrical pole and grid emergencies making headlines across Colorado, understanding what our responders may encounter is more important than ever. ⚡🐿️🔥

And, in the interest of science and firefighter education, a few hot dogs and grapefruit bravely demonstrated what can happen when electricity and the wrong circumstances meet. 🌭🍊⚡

The good news? No squirrels were harmed during this demonstration. We can't make the same promise about the hot dogs.

Thank you, CORE Electric, for sharing your expertise and helping us stay safer, smarter, and better prepared to serve our community!

We know our community loves to be outside. Whether you are in the mountains, Castlewood Canyon State Park, or your property -- stay safe. When thunder roars, go indoors.

Yesterday, Franktown Fire, West Douglas Fire, and Elbert Fire proudly celebrated the graduation of our newest firefighters.

Surrounded by family, friends, and mentors, these graduates were recognized for the hard work, dedication, and perseverance they demonstrated throughout the academy. The challenges they overcame and the bonds they built will connect them throughout their fire service careers.

Congratulations to each of you! We celebrate your accomplishment and wish you long, healthy, safe, and rewarding careers as you serve your communities.

🎆 Celebrate Safely, Douglas County!

As the 4th of July approaches, we want to remind everyone to celebrate responsibly. We get it, fireworks are a holiday favorite. But they can also be dangerous, spark wildfires, and cause serious stress for veterans, pets, and neighbors. Under Stage 2 Fire Restrictions, ALL fireworks are banned.

If you see illegal fireworks and can provide the location, please use the Fireworks Hotline, 303-814-7118. It will be staffed and available to receive fireworks-related complaints from July 3rd through July 5th, between 6:00 p.m. and midnight each evening.

Outside of these dates and hours, citizens should report fireworks-related concerns through Douglas Regional 9-1-1's non-emergency line at 303-660-7500.

FIRE RESTRICTION UPDATE: STAGE 2 NOW IN EFFECT

Because it is hot and dry, fuel moisture levels are extremely low, and high fire danger across the state is putting a massive strain on our emergency responders, Douglas County has officially elevated fire restrictions to Stage 2 for all of unincorporated Douglas County, including Larkspur and Castle Pines.

We understand that moving to Stage 2 right before the 4th of July is incredibly difficult, especially since we all look forward to celebrating this holiday together. However, our first responders have already responded to multiple fires in recent days ignited by fireworks. With multiple wildfires burning across Colorado, our absolute priority must be keeping your families, your homes, and our personnel safe.

Please look out for each other and celebrate responsibly. Compliance with these restrictions is mandatory.

🚫 STRICTLY PROHIBITED:
• Open burning of any kind
• All fireworks (including professional displays)
• Chimineas, portable fireplaces, or patio fire pits
• Campfires at developed campgrounds or picnic areas
• Model rockets

✅ PERMITTED (Under strict guidelines):
• Liquid or gas-fueled stoves, grills, and appliances
• Actively supervised residential charcoal grills (supervised by someone 18+)
• Fires inside permanent fireplaces/wood stoves inside permanent buildings only

Thank you for helping us safeguard the county we all love.
