Ever wonder what’s happening with all that corn being harvested across Delaware right now?

Unlike the sweet corn on your dinner plate, field corn is left to dry right on the stalk before harvest. Once it’s gathered, here’s where it goes.

- Poultry feed: Delaware’s broiler chicken industry is massive! Most of our October field corn goes straight to local feed mills (like Perdue, Mountaire, and Tyson) to feed local flocks.
- Grain storage and markets: Harvested grain is stored in silos or sent to local grain elevators and the Port of Wilmington for regional distribution and export.
- Silage: The remaining stalks and grain are processed into nutrient-dense feed to keep local dairy and beef cattle fed all winter long.

Here, you can see the corn harvest in action at Full Throttle Farms in Clayton, Delaware, owned by the Czachorowski family and operated by Legacy Farms. Of their 340 total acres, half are dedicated to field corn and the other half to soybeans, which will be harvested next in November.
