IHC would like to thank our local Dunkin’s for the generous donation towards our Big Money Bingo. This is another great showing from one of our local businesses that care about their Fire Company. These donations help us run our station, and our Apparstus throughout the year.

As a reminder, our Bingo event is this Sunday, October 18th. For more information, see the Facebook post as well as our website.

Today we celebrated the life of IHC Life Member Jack Fleischman. Family and friends convened at the Stauffer Funeral Home where memories of Jack were spoken. After the service a procession travelled from the Funeral Home through downtown Frederick to the Mount Olivet Cemetery. Once the graveside service was finished, a reception was held at Independent Hose Company Banquet room.

We would like to send continued thoughts and prayers to the family, and also thank all of the IHC and DFRS members (present and retired), and friends that knew Jack.

He will be greatly missed.

IHC is blessed to have many Life Members that continue to contribute to their organization, whether running calls, helping with fund raisers, or assisting with tasks at the station.

Billy Horine is one of those members who is always willing to pitch in and assist wherever/whenever. Today Billy was at the station fixing much needed items, all while units were taking in multiple calls.

Just another example of true dedication.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Life Member John “Jack” Fleischman on September 20th, 2026.

Jack joined the Independent Hose Company in 1945 holding many positions including Fire Chief and President. He stepped away from the Fire Department to serve his Country and served in the Korean War where he received a Purple Heart for his Service.

Jack was also the President of the Frederick County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association from 1990 - 1991.

Funeral arrangements will be announced when they are available. Please keep Jack's Family and the Members of the IHC in your thoughts and prayers.

Long time IHC member in need of Prayers.

Life Member Jack Fleischman suffered an injury 2 weeks ago while at his residence. This got him a stay in the hospital where he had surgery to repair his injury. Since then, the news on Jacks status has not been good. Jack's recovery has not gone the path we had wanted. Jack was transferred to Kline Hospice in Mt. Airy tomorrow afternoon. We support his and his family's decision and ask that people not call or text Cheryl during this painful time. When I get any visitation info I will update.

Please Pray for him and his family.
