🪶 Today, we honor Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

We recognize and celebrate the histories, cultures, traditions, resilience, and contributions of Indigenous peoples who have shaped our communities and our nation for generations.

May we continue to listen, learn, amplify Indigenous voices, and honor the rich and diverse cultures of Native American communities, today and throughout the year.

🧠💚 Today is World Mental Health Day.

Mental health is an important part of our overall health and well-being. Today is a reminder to check in with ourselves, reach out to others, and help create communities where conversations about mental health are met with understanding, compassion, and support.

A simple conversation, a listening ear, or a moment of kindness can make a difference. 💚

Did you know?

Community Health Workers (CHWs) have deep roots in global public health. One of the earliest large‑scale models was China’s “barefoot doctors,” rural health workers trained to bring basic medical care, health education, and prevention directly into villages.

Today, CHWs carry that same spirit, connecting communities to care, helping people manage chronic conditions, supporting appointments and follow‑up, and addressing barriers like transportation, language, and health literacy. They’re trusted neighbors, not just professionals.

For 11 weeks over the summer, 18 Washington County ENOUGH families participated in I Read a Book. The program was created with several key goals in mind: to decrease the use of electronic media in children, to provide an opportunity for families to connect, and to encourage learning over the summer. Children who participated completed a worksheet that included questions about the characters and plot of the book along with their thoughts about the story line and ending. Also required was an interview with ENOUGH staff. For each book completed, $10 was set aside for the child to spend to purchase items they needed for back to school.

To celebrate the end of the program and the achievement of its participants, the ENOUGH team held a graduation ceremony complete with "Pomp and Circumstance". Congratulations to all our young readers, and thank you to our Hagerstown team, partners, and families for helping nurture a love of reading and learning!
