🎶 From the band room to the stadium stands, Friday was an unforgettable day for our WGMS Band 2 and Band 3 students!

Our Tigers traveled to James Monroe High School, where they met the high school band director and worked alongside JMHS band section leaders. That evening, they headed to Maury Stadium to play together in the stands and cheer on the high school musicians during their Wizard of Oz-inspired halftime show! 🌈🥁🎺

The experience was a wonderful example of mentorship, connection, and the sense of belonging that grows when students discover their niche. Judging by the smiles and excitement, many of our middle school musicians are already eager to become marching band members themselves!

Thank you to the JMHS band program for welcoming our Tigers and showing them the exciting opportunities waiting just ahead. 🐯🧡🖤

🌍 Last Thursday, our 6th-grade English classes took a field trip to Gombe National Park in Tanzania - well, not exactly! 🐒

Guest speaker Ms. Anna Dickinson brought Gombe to Walker-Grant by sharing photos and stories from her experiences in the park and her work with the Jane Goodall Institute.

As students prepare for their upcoming Animal Allies unit, they are reading Jane Goodall’s memoir, My Life with the Chimpanzees. After Ms. Dickinson’s presentation, students put their writing skills into action by creating clear, concise captions for her photographs.

This is the second year our 6th-grade English teachers have organized this special event, and it is quickly becoming one of our favorite days of the year!

⚽ What an incredible first season for Walker-Grant soccer!

Friday evening, our Tigers battled King George Middle School in the championship game and came up just short in a hard-fought 1–0 loss.

King George may have taken home the trophy, but our Tigers still won big. In the very first season of our soccer program, this team made it all the way to the championship and showed tremendous skill, teamwork, perseverance, and Tiger pride along the way!

We are incredibly proud of what these players and coaches built together - and we can’t wait to see what comes next season! 🧡🖤

A big Tiger thank-you to our Mental Wellness dynamic duo, Kim Cunningham and Tiffany Acors, for visiting our 7th-grade Science classes this week to present the SOS: Signs of Su***de program. 🧡

Students learned how to recognize possible signs of depression or emotional distress, show care when someone may be struggling, and seek help from a trusted adult. These conversations give our young Tigers the knowledge and confidence to look out for themselves and one another - and remind them that they never have to face difficult feelings alone.

Thank you, Kim and Tiffany, for helping us build a safer, more caring school community through education, connection, and prevention.

Get ready for an afternoon of fall fun! Students are invited to join us for our Fall Festival Dance on Thursday, October 29, after school from 3:15–5:00 PM.

🍁 What’s in store?
🎭 Costume contest with prizes!
🍿 Snacks and drinks
🎶 Music and dancing
🎉 Fun with friends!

🚌 Transportation will be available after the dance.

WGMS staff members work hard together - and today, they played hard together during our third annual staff kickball game! 🧡🖤

There was plenty of laughter, teamwork, school spirit, and just a little friendly competition as Team WHITE defeated Team ORANGE 5–1 to claim bragging rights for another year!

That makes it a three-peat for Team WHITE, who have won all three annual games…but who’s counting? We’re definitely not competitive around here. 😂🏆

At Walker-Grant, we believe teams that work together and play together stay together. If you’re looking for a school family that supports one another, enjoys being together, and knows how to have fun, come join our Tiger team!

Guitar Club gives students a chance to learn new chords, make friends, and build confidence. Learning an instrument takes patience and perseverance - but every new note shows that practice pays off!
