Here is a response I received from Rick Larsen about data centers in our community:
"I am concerned about the potential impact of unchecked data center growth on utility rates, the environment and local communities. That is why I support severe restrictions on large data centers, including:
Ensuring no impact on electricity rates from data center operations on ratepayers.
Requiring data centers to pay their fair share for connection and use of the grid.
Mandating closed loop water systems that do not exploit water utility infrastructure.
Eliminating every federal tax break and loophole that data centers take advantage of.
Requiring union labor for construction.

Some communities in Washington state, including Skagit and Snohomish Counties, have enacted temporary data center moratoriums. I support the ability of local jurisdictions to enact temporary moratoriums to give themselves time to decide how they want to manage large data centers.

I am working with local utilities and energy providers, including Bonneville Power Administration, to protect Northwest Washington from the impact of unrestrained data center growth in the Pacific Northwest.

I am committed to ensuring families in Northwest Washington have access to reliable and affordable electricity. Please know I am tracking this issue, and I will keep your thoughts in mind as Congress considers legislation concerning data centers."
