At 3:27pm, Freeport Fire Department B-shift members were dispatched to Riverside Drive for a report of a vehicle that had struck a building.

On arrival, and once it was determined there were no serious injuries, firefighters on scene secured the gas and electric utilities, contacted the City of Freeport Building Inspector for evaluation of the structures stability, and assisted in the removal of the vehicle.

Yesterday, members of Freeport Fire Department (as part of the MABAS Division 17 Hazardous Materials Team) participated in a validation exercise.

This exercise tests the members on their ability to work as a team with other Divisions to mitigate the effects of Hazardous Materials incidents.

The MABAS Division members will then use this test as a tool to continually improve their skills and to be always at the ready for any incident, large or small.

Well done gentlemen!

This week, Freeport Firefighters are completing annual hose testing for the department. Every piece of fire hose is pulled from every piece of apparatus and from storage and tested to make sure it holds water under pressure as it should. Hose testing is a necessary part of equipment maintenance in that if a hose line fails, we would rather have it happen during testing than at a structure fire when lives depend on that line. Each piece of hose is then tracked for the life of the hose to ensure its proper testing and care.

Enjoy these pictures of B-shift on their day of hose testing.
