Seafood Economic Accelerator for Maine (SEA Maine) announced grants on Wednesday (10/14) at the Freeport Town Wharf.

These grants will fund marine community infrastructure projects through the Seafood Infrastructure Adaptation Fund (SIAF), including over $200,000 to the Town of Freeport!

With these funds, the Town of Freeport will replace deteriorating docks and floats at three locations along the Harraseeket River: Cove Road Wharf, the Commercial River Floats, and the Freeport Town Wharf.

This infrastructure supports 60+ municipal shellfish license holders, commercial fishing, lobster and aquaculture gear storage, and temporary vessel berthing. The project will replace the piers, gangway, and floats at all three sites.

Thanks to Maine Development Foundation and SEA Maine for making these funds available to Freeport's working waterfront!

Watch the press conference below, featuring MDF CEO Yellow Light Breen, Town of Freeport Harbor Master Charlie Tetreau, Maine Ocean Farms Founding Partner Eric Oransky, and SEA Maine co-chair Togue Brawn.

From 2021 to 2025, there were a total of 32,650 crashes involving deer on Maine roads, with nearly 19.5% of them coming in November! Be careful, those numbers also rise sharply in October. Remember: fall is here, so watch for deer!
