Please join us in congratulating Mailson Freire de Oliveira on his transition to a new role with the University of Nebraska Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension and Education Center (ENREEC)!

After serving as the Water and Cropping Systems Extension Educator with the Dodge County Extension Office, Mailson will now serve as an Extension Educator specializing in Precision and Digital Agriculture at ENREEC.

We are grateful for the knowledge, expertise, and dedication Mailson has shared with the agricultural communities of Dodge, Cuming, and Washington Counties. His work has helped producers access research-based information and resources to make informed decisions for their operations.

While we will certainly miss having Mailson as part of our local Extension team, we are excited to see him take on this new opportunity and continue serving Nebraska agriculture in an important and growing area.

Congratulations, Mailson, on your new adventure!

Thank you for your service to Dodge, Cuming, and Washington Counties, and best wishes in your new position at ENREEC!

Floods have a big impact on a lot of things, not the least of which is our landscape. There are few strategies for preventing damage, but care of our plants after can go a long way to helping them recover. Check out https://hles.unl.edu/floods/ for how to help your yard and garden after the waters.

Two things to focus on are:
Any harvestable produce from the garden isn't safe to eat and should be disposed of. There are many contaminants in water and it isn't possible to know what is safe.

Damaged plant material should be removed as soon as possible to prevent secondary pest and disease issues. Prune broken branches from trees and shrubs and trim leaves and stems from perennials.

Reach out to your local Extension office for more information.
