The incredible BASIS Independent Fremont Junior Honor Society and the entire school fundraised nearly $3,000 to help our Fremont community members who are exiting homelessness.

These are our future leaders, who visited our site, learned about their neighbors in need, and talked to our team - bringing these beautifully wrapped gifts of full cookware sets along with them.

These cookware sets will be housewarming gifts for the people we move into housing. We have one move-out this week and will continue it from there!

Thank you Mayor Lily Mei for sharing this update! This would not be possible without the incredible support from community members of Fremont, who have made quilts, donated shoes and clothes and hygiene kits, and given us the strong support of "Yes In My Backyard" to bring tangible solutions to the housing crisis that impacts our neighbors.

So far, 21 out of the first 44 people we have served have moved into housing. The other community members are still active residents and we are working with them to find housing - but we are so thrilled for the 21 people who have headed in these first 6 months.

When COVID restrictions end, we will be able to help even more people, as we are currently operating at half capacity for safety.

The Fremont Housing Navigation Center’s (HNC) six-month progress report is now live, featuring a summary of operations, program outcomes, and information on how the HNC has integrated into the community. To date, the HNC has served 44 individuals, 21 of which have transitioned into other housing arrangements while the rest actively participate in the program. Thank you Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care USA for the generous in-kind donation of socks, underwear, and clothing, as well as weekly PB&J sandwiches.

Homelessness is a massive, increasingly visible challenge that our community is facing, and because it has no single cause, there is no “one size fits all” solution.

At the Fremont Navigation Center, people have temporary housing (on average, 4-6 months) while we help them locate permanent housing and work on mental health, physical health, benefits, and job needs. This type of generosity from our community partners is crucial!

Happy New Year! Sending a special gratitude today to middle school (and therefore ) Madhu Aggarwal 💙

Madhu donated 25 pairs of brand new shoes for the community members of the Fremont Housing Navigation Center, and personally delivered them to us! Every single resident at the HNC got a new pair of shoes, and for many folks it was their first new pair of shoes in years.
