One of the really fun parts of being a seventh or eighth grader at Centerville Middle School is getting the opportunity to take electives! Centerville offers a wide variety of electives ranging from art and languages to leadership and drama.

One elective that many students enjoy is drama, which includes both Drama 1 and Drama 2. These semester-long classes give students the opportunity to learn about theater, acting, stage production, and performance. At the end of each semester, the drama students put on a play during their period inviting 6th graders and parents to watch.

This year’s production was Oliver Twist, performed by a talented group of seventh and eighth graders. These pictures are from the period 3 class. What made this production even more special was that some of the eighth grade students also took on leadership roles by helping direct the play alongside Mr. Rhodes.

We love seeing our students express themselves creatively through the arts, and theater is such a wonderful outlet for building confidence, teamwork, creativity, and communication skills. We are so thankful for Mr. Rhodes and all the work he does to help students learn the ins and outs of theater while developing a passion for the performing arts.

Great job to all of our drama students on an amazing production!

For those of you who attended the basketball game today, you may have been greeted by the pleasant surprise of a snack bar hosted by the FAVORS Club. This club was started this year by students at Centerville High the 6th grade teacher Mrs. Carlie as their teacher Advisor. FAVORS stands for Fundraising, Accomplish, Volunteer, Organize, Respond, and Service.

The goal of this club is to find meaningful ways to provide acts of service around campus in order to better our school community. They also focus on fundraising, and the money collected throughout the year will be used at the end of the year to support a specific need at the school.

The FAVORS Club was also responsible for organizing and putting together the Tribute Tree for Ms. Oliver-Brown after her passing, providing support to her family during a difficult time. In addition they organized a book drive in December.

We are incredibly proud and honored to have such an amazing club on our campus, one whose mission is centered on helping and uplifting their school community. Go Mustangs!
