Sandusky County EMS Sandusky County EMS (SCEMS) is a 24 hour operation proudly servicing Sandusky County.
(1)

Sandusky County Emergency Medical Services (SCEMS) originated in 1975 and operates five stations / ambulances across 390 square miles of Sandusky County. These ambulances are responsible for all BLS and ALS transports generated from calls made to 911 (no private or scheduled transports). Mutual aid and rehab is provided for all fire departments, the Sandusky County Dive Team and Haz-Mat team. Funding for SCEMS comes from a .25 % of the sales tax collected in Sandusky County and also the revenue collected from transport services. The system consists of an EMS Chief, (who reports to the Board of Commissioners), an EMS Clerical Specialist, 4 Captains, 24 full time and 5 part time paramedics. Each of the 4 stations consists of 6 paramedics whose work schedule is structured into a 24 hour on, 48 hours off rotation with 2 Paramedics working per shift at each station. SCEMS believes in maintaining good Public Relations with the citizens of Sandusky County. This is accomplished through various Public Relation Events the system participates in throughout the year such as standing by during football games, cross country meets and The Sandusky County Fair to visiting schools, businesses and community events for demonstrations and speaking engagements.

Please consider donating blood in honor of Gibsonburg Police Department Officer Kisha who was injured in the line of duty in August. Receiving blood is a life saving procedure for trauma patients, that saved Officer Kisha's life. Officer Kisha, we stand by you and hope recovery is going well.

Monthly Training picked back up after having the summer months off last moth. Employees were introduced to the new Zoll Zenix Cardiac Monitors and AutoPulse NXTs (Compression Device) as a preplanned upgrade. Thank you ZOLL Medical for coming in to complete in service of these new devices.

Along with new cardiac monitors and compression devices, we trained with our Medical Director, Dr. Escajeda, in Cardiac Arrest Bundle, Traumatic Arrest, and the significance of patient refusals.

Last but not least, command staff and TEMS members were trained on Finger Thoracostomy Procedure that was put in service this week!

SCEMS ensures patients are receiving the highest level of care possible with up-to-date equipment and protocols.

We extend our appreciation to everyone that attended our ribbon cutting ceremony for our new headquarters last month. As we are continuing to settle in, we cannot thank the community enough for the support of this well overdue building for EMS. The community also had the chance to tour this state-of-the-art building that features a medical exam room, conference room, storm shelter, and a large apparatus bay that allows all our vehicles to be under one roof. Thank you again for all those that attended to show their support. Thank you to those that played a crucial role in making this day a success!
