It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Dennis Torrance, a lifetime member of the Indiana Railway Museum.

Dennis served multiple terms on our Board of Directors and was a current member at the time of his passing. He joined the railway in 1984 and devoted countless hours to our organization.

He was a certified conductor and worked alongside former Board President, Alan Barnett, operating dinner trains in Jasper. He loved tinkering with small diesel engines and helping with projects in both the mechanical and operations departments.

His dedication was recognized at this year's Membership Dinner where he received the "Beacon of Service" award that honored the many hours of volunteered time replacing lights around our office and shop buildings and many other projects.

His contributions, kindness, and steadfast commitment will be deeply missed. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Dennis’s family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.

Ever wondered what the view looks like from the BEST seat on the train? 👀🚂 Skip the passenger car and ride up front with the engineer during a Scenic Train Ride this month at French Lick Scenic Railway!

Our Cab Ride Experience gives up to two guests the rare opportunity to climb inside the locomotive cab, feel the power of the engine, hear the rails beneath you, and experience the journey through Southern Indiana from a perspective most passengers never get to see.

And you’ll have a few souvenirs to remember it by:
⭐️ Commemorative enamel pin featuring the engine number
🚂 Official engineer hat
📖 Book highlighting the history of our railway
🎫 One-year membership to French Lick Scenic Railway

This isn’t just another scenic train ride — it’s a behind-the-scenes railroad experience for the train enthusiast, history lover, or adventure seeker who wants to know what it’s really like up front.

Cab Rides are extremely LIMITED and available on select excursions. 🚨Call 1-800-74-TRAIN for pricing, availability, and more information.

NEW OCTOBER DATES JUST DROPPED! 🍂🚂

And if there’s ever a time to take the scenic route through Southern Indiana, we’d say fall is pretty hard to beat. 😉

Climb aboard at our historic French Lick depot for a 1.5-hour Scenic Train Ride winding through the hills of the Hoosier National Forest, past pieces of Indiana railroad history, and through the 2,200-foot Burton Tunnel — the second-longest railroad tunnel in Indiana!

But October has a little something extra waiting on the rails. 👀

For our fall Scenic Trips, we’re bringing one of our historic Rock Island cars back into service from our Historical Collection! It’ll be paired with our guest-favorite Open-Air car, giving you one seriously good way to experience the sights, sounds, and crisp fall air of Southern Indiana. 🍁

This rare two-coach consist is only hitting the rails for our October Scenic Train Rides - so if a fall train ride through French Lick has been sitting on your bucket list, this is the time.

New October dates are available NOW! Get your tickets here: https://frenchlicktrain.com/schedule/

YOUR GIFT NOW GOES TWICE AS FAR📈

If you’ve ridden the French Lick Scenic Railway, you know there’s something special about stepping aboard a piece of history. And right now, you have an opportunity to make twice the impact in helping preserve it.

A generous donor has agreed to match donations dollar for dollar, up to $10,000.

That means every gift made during this matching opportunity goes twice as far.

Give $25, and it becomes $50. Give $100, and it becomes $200. Together, we have the opportunity to turn $10,000 in community support into $20,000 for the preservation of the railway.

Keeping this history on the rails takes more than tickets and timetables. Our historic locomotives, passenger cars, depot, and equipment require ongoing care, repairs, fresh paint, and larger restoration projects—work that simply can’t be funded through ticket sales alone.

That’s why we created the Preservation & Beautification Fund.

And yes—we’ve seen the comments asking us to “Paint the trains!” We hear you, and we want to see them looking their best, too. Your support helps make projects like these possible while ensuring these pieces of railway history are cared for today and protected for generations to come.

Whether you give $5, $25, $100, or more, your donation will be matched dollar for dollar until we reach $10,000.

Don’t miss this opportunity to double your impact. Donate here: https://square.link/u/ETWJYLXu

❤️ Help us preserve it. Restore it. Keep it rolling—and make your gift count twice.
