We are the United States Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) Detachment 035 at Fresno State.

In our program, students build and lead a dedicated cadet corps. AFROTC courses are taught by active duty USAF officers and cover subjects such as leadership, management, Air Force history, and national security affairs. To find out more about commissioning into the Air Force through our unit, view the rest of our website to see what we do. ACE Capstone Recap!

Cadets put their semester’s worth of training to the test during the ACE Capstone. Through simulated scenarios, they applied their knowledge, decision-making, and procedures to identify and respond to real world situations.

A true culmination of everything learned, showcasing growth, confidence, and readiness.

Brought to you by the Historian Officers: Big congratulations to C/Maj Rea on a massive milestone! Not only is he commissioning this semester, but he has officially traded the maintenance career field for a rated slot as a Combat Systems Officer (CSO). Seeing him in that flight suit is a testament to his hard work and dedication to the detachment. We can’t wait to see what you accomplish in the air!

Week 8 & 9 Recap

Week 8 focused on IED awareness, where cadets took part in a team-based exercise to locate potential threats and report them using the Five C’s and 9-line procedures. It was all about communication, coordination, and staying sharp under pressure.

In Week 9, cadets put their training into action applying everything they’ve learned this semester to identify threats vs. non-threats while following proper procedures and protocols.

What’s up! I’m Evin Moskaira, I’m a Nursing Major and a proud spearhead of the Fresno Filipino community.

Biggest growth moment?
Silver platters happen once in a blue moon. When I figured out that the only person who could make my ambition real was myself, I started to take on opportunity after opportunity. I think most people don’t realize how much potential they have.

Hobbies?
My hobbies rotate every week, right now I’m learning how to draw, I do some side modeling, and I research herbal medicine. Side questing the best though!

Why/Purpose?
I joined ROTC initially just to try it out. However, I found out how passionate I was about being in and learning about leadership.

Describe Leadership in one word?
Others

Advice?
Stop worrying about it all, the time will pass anyway

My name is Daryn Ros and I am currently an AS200. Biggest growth moment?
After my mid term feedbacks, my instructor made me realize how much potential I had if I started using a conscious effort to be a better leader. Having joined late, I felt as if I was always playing catch up in this program, switching that mindset made a huge differnce in performance. Even in other aspects of my life.

Hobbies-
I love going out of town when I can, especially the mountains. I hope to fly myself out of town someday to take a weekend getaway.

Why/purpose?
I initially joined with the single track goal of becoming a pilot after our previous commander visited my local airport. Since joining the program, though, my purpose has grown into something bigger: surrounding myself with and leading people who share a mindset of growth and who will keep moving forward in the face of hardship.

I would describe leadership in one word as “connection”

Advice?
Never count yourself out or let life blow you by. If there is something you want to an accomplish or achieve, never be afraid to step up to the plate.

Week 7 recap

This week we focused on sharpening lifesaving skills and leadership standards. Instead of just talking through scenarios, cadets walked through MARCH, practiced tourniquet application, and reinforced accountability under pressure along with learning the Form 2 with GLP’s. Cadets learned that every standard matters. Meeting the mark requires discipline, preparation.

Shout out to Cadet Stirwalt for recieving the Cadet Wing Recognition Award and Cadet Demelo for taking his first solo flight.

Train with purpose. Lead with integrity. Take care of your people.

My name is Michelle Nguyen and I’m currently an AS100. I am a biochemistry and child and family science major at Fresno State hoping to become a pediatrician.

Biggest growth moment?
“My experience with taekwondo was my biggest moment of growth in life. I started taekwondo lessons in kindergarten and earned up to a third degree black belt my sophomore year of high school. Training and competing in taekwondo helped me develop the discipline needed to succeed in what I pursue as it developed my physical and mental fortitude.”

Hardest lesson learned?
“The hardest lesson during ROTC has been learning how to manage my time. Balancing life between academics, flight lessons, my job, and ROTC has been challenging, but by pushing through the busy days and staying organized, life is seeming more manageable.”

Why/purpose?
“I joined the AFROTC, because I saw how much of a positive impact this program had on my siblings and how much of an impact they made on others. The program also pushes me to new physical limits and allows me to give back to the community that raised me.”

Leadership in one word?
“One word that describes leadership to me is accountability.”

Advice?
“My advice would be to always compete with yourself. Comparing my present and past selves instead of comparing myself with others helps me know if I am truly pushing myself to the limit and recognize areas of growth. The effort put into growth can easily be overlooked, but acknowledging and appreciating those tough moments develops a mindset that will continue to approach challenges.”

Week Recap 🌧️➡️💪

This week we were set to head out to the field for LLAB, but weather had other plans. Instead of canceling, we adapted.

Cadets shifted gears and focused on practicing SALUTE reports and the Five S’s, sharpening attention to detail and reinforcing the fundamentals. Even without the field, the training continued proving that flexibility and discipline are just as important as the plan itself.

Adapt. Overcome. Improve. 🔥
