5th Annual Candlelight Mourning TourWhen Death Was an Art, and Mourning Was a Way of Life…

Have you ever wondered why Victorian families covered their mirrors when someone died? Why widows wore black for years? Or why people treasured jewelry made from the hair of someone they loved?

On Friday, October 30, the Meux Home Museum invites you to discover the fascinating, unusual, and sometimes peculiar traditions surrounding death and mourning in the Victorian era.

Join us for our 5th Annual Candlelight Mourning Tour, an evening when the historic 1888 Meux Home will be illuminated by candlelight and gasoliers, just as homes were before the arrival of electricity.

Our volunteers, dressed in period mourning attire, will guide you through rooms prepared to reflect the customs of a Victorian household in mourning. Discover the stories behind mourning clothing, covered mirrors, funeral photography, memorial jewelry, and the rituals families observed to honor their loved ones.

This is NOT a haunted house or fright attraction! It is a fascinating historical experience filled with intriguing stories, curious traditions, and a glimpse into how people understood death more than a century ago.

Have you ever wanted to step inside the Meux Home after dark and take part in a real paranormal investigation?

On Saturday, October 24, 911 Paranormal Rescue Fresno returns to the Meux Home Museum for Spirits of the Past, a special Halloween investigation for those who have always wondered what it would be like to investigate a historic home after the doors close for the night.

This is not a fright attraction or jump scare event. This is an authentic paranormal investigation led by the experienced team from 911 Paranormal Rescue Fresno.

If you have ever joined one of their night walking tours and left wishing you could actually come inside the Meux Home to investigate, this is your opportunity. Spend the evening inside the house, learn more about paranormal investigation, and see for yourself what stories, sounds, or unexplained activity may still remain within these rooms.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, October 10. The Bygone Bazaar Fall Market is almost here at the Meux Home Museum.

Spend the morning shopping, exploring, and supporting local vendors in the historic setting of the Meux Home. Admission to the outdoor Bazaar is completely FREE.

We have vendors joining us with a variety of items, including jewelry, clothing, sweet treats, breads, food, and other finds.

The Meux Home Museum will also have its own sale filled with donated treasures, including antiques, collectibles, home décor, books, vintage pieces, and more. Every purchase made from the museum's sale directly supports the Meux Home Museum and helps us continue caring for this Fresno landmark.

Purchases from our community vendors support their individual businesses, so your morning at the Bazaar is a chance to shop local while supporting the museum at the same time.

The Meux Home will also be open for tours during the Bazaar. Regular museum admission applies for house tours.

The Meux Home Museum is partnering with 911 Paranormal Rescue Fresno for Spirits of the Past, the only official paranormal investigation experience held inside the Meux Home Museum.
Spend the evening exploring the historic home with experienced paranormal investigators while learning more about the people, events, and documented history connected to the house. This is your opportunity to separate fact from folklore and hear the history where it actually happened.

Some evenings are meant to be savored.

Bourbon by Gaslight returns to the Meux Home Museum on Friday, September 25, for an intimate night of bourbon, wh***ey, ci**rs, and conversation in the historic gardens of the Meux Home.

This is not a crowded tasting festival. Bourbon by Gaslight is a boutique experience where you can take your time, discover new favorites, revisit a pour you enjoyed, and spend the evening relaxing beneath the lights of one of Fresno's historic treasures.

Cigar enthusiasts are welcome to bring their own ci**rs, or purchase one during the evening from A Perfect Blend of Fresno's Tower District. Feel free to bring a lounge chair, find a comfortable spot in the garden, and make an evening of it.

Today, the United States celebrates 250 years of independence.

As we gather with family and friends, we pause to honor the courage, sacrifice, and determination of those who helped shape our nation. For two and a half centuries, generations of Americans have worked to defend the freedoms and opportunities that continue to define the United States.

At the Meux Home Museum, we are reminded every day that history lives on through the stories, homes, and communities left behind by those who came before us. Their experiences help us better understand where we have been and inspire us to think about where we are going.

Today we celebrate the freedoms we enjoy, the sacrifices that made them possible, and the work still ahead to ensure liberty and justice for all.

From all of us at the Meux Home Museum, Happy Fourth of July and congratulations to the U.S.A. on 250 years of independence.

Happy Father's Day from all of us at the Meux Home Museum!

The museum will be closed on Sunday, June 21, to allow our volunteers and visitors time to celebrate with family and loved ones.

We wish all fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, and father figures a wonderful day filled with happiness and cherished memories. We look forward to welcoming you back during our regular hours next weekend.
