VACCHCS has 40,000 Veterans currently enrolled for health care eligibility and serves more than 28,000 Veterans in six counties in California’s San Joaquin Valley. The six counties include Tulare, Kings, Fresno, Madera, Merced and Mariposa. Three Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) in Merced, Tulare and Oakhurst support the wide catchment area served by the health care system. VACCHCS CBOCs use Telehealth services to increase access to specialty care such as neurology, diabetes and nutritional consultation, dermatology, wound care, mental health and other services.

⚓ Celebrating the U.S. Navy’s 251st Birthday

On October 13, VA Central California observed the 251st birthday of the United States Navy with a brief ceremony and refreshments on the front steps of the medical center in Fresno.

Vietnam Veteran Lyle Bricco, 84, did the honors of cutting the birthday cake. Mr. Bricco served in the Navy from 1961 to 1965 as part of VA-196 Fighter Squadron, where he worked as an ejection-seat repairman for aircraft. He also shared that he was the first manager of Roller Towne in Fresno around 1970.

The observance recognized the Navy’s origins as the Continental Navy, established by the Second Continental Congress in 1775, and celebrated its enduring contributions to national security, global stability and humanitarian efforts.

Clovis Construction Update

Work continues at the VA property near Herndon and Armstrong Avenues in Clovis. The site is expected to open as a temporary parking lot in February 2027.

Our long-term vision is a modern facility to meet Veterans’ growing needs. Major VA construction projects require years of planning, approvals, funding, and prioritization. We remain committed to pursuing this opportunity and securing resources to expand care locally.
