Today we celebrated the successful completion of the Fresno Irrigation District's Kenneson & Sanchez Basin Project. With grant funding through California Department of Water Resources's Integrated Regional Water Management (IRWM) Program, this project converted 47 acres of vineyards to a recharge basin. The Project will add high quality surface water from the Kings River to the available groundwater through recharge and is anticipated to have a storage capacity of approx. 160 AF and about 960 AF of annual recharge benefit. This project was also made possible by land purchased from the Kenneson and Sanchez families.
Board Chair Mary Fast was onsite to share about integrated regional water management planning in the Kings Subbasin and acknowledged Fresno Irrigation District's long history of working collaboratively with the communities and agencies in the central valley to provide implementable solutions to address the water needs of our region.

Sometimes its the moments after the formal meetings that the discussions and collaboration really occur.
Integrated Regional Water Management (IRWM) crosses jurisdictional, watershed, and political boundaries; involves multiple agencies, non-profit organizations, other groups and interested individuals; and attempts to address the issues and differing perspectives of the stakeholders involved to achieve mutually beneficial solutions.
