Miguel Arias, Fresno City Council District 3 Councilmember Miguel A. Arias, City of Fresno, District 3 This gratification allowed me to focus on my attention in helping improve Fresno Unified.

It is with humility, excitement, and a great sense of responsibility that I formally announce my candidacy for State Center Community College Trustee Area 5. After serving on the Mendota School Board a few years ago I felt personally fulfilled that I had done my small part in paying it forward to our younger generation, as those before us did for us. Additionally, it allowed me to volunteer my time on the board of directors of two non-profit organizations that serve our Central Valley foster kids. Most importantly, these past years gave me the gift of time to invest in my family. Over the years, many of my friends have expressed frustration with long waiting lists and a lottery experience that have become a standard for programs that meet our local high demand industries. Furthermore, I have seen first-hand many of our students spend several years in system that was deigned to transfer them to higher education after two. It is this challenge that I seek your support to pursue. I ask that if I should win that you hold me accountable for fulfilling my goals in improving our community college system so that ALL our kids can benefit.

This morning I had the pleasure of recognizing the Asociacion de vendedores Ambulantes de fresno AVAF (Mobile Food Vendor Association of Fresno).

Established in 2021, the association has worked together, supporting local entrepreneurs as they establish themselves as formal businesses, from navigating City and County licensing and permitting requirements to advocating for their needs.

Today, we proudly recognize "Mobile Food Vendors Day" in honor of their leadership and continued advocacy in creating opportunities and dedicated spaces for the community's vendors.

Tower District Updates! Olive Avenue from Palm Ave. to Van Ness Ave.

New Passenger Loading Zones:
UPDATE: 🔹Enforcement will occur Thursday through Monday, from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
🔹Passenger loading zones will be available for rideshare users.
🔹Tower District patrons may park in these areas outside of the enforcement hours.
🔹Please note posted signs where vehicles taller than 6 ft are prohibited from parking.

Proposed vendor area:
Tomorrow, the City Council will consider a resolution for a 90-day pilot program restricting sidewalk vending along Olive Avenue from Thursday – Monday. As part of this pilot program, the vacant lot at the southwest corner of Olive Ave and Van Ness Ave has been identified as a designated vending area, and will plan to enhance the vending site with additional lighting, security cameras, and on-site security.

This week, new safety measures will be implemented along the Olive Ave corridor between Palm and Van Ness.

🚗Designated passenger loading and no parking zones have been established, please watch for the new curb markings and posted signs.

Last night’s shooting is the latest in a troubling pattern of violence that has plagued our Tower District neighborhood nightlife. Our current investments, strategies, and efforts have not delivered the results our community deserves. The status quo is no longer acceptable.

Over the next few days, we will have some difficult, honest, and uncomfortable conversations about what it will take to restore safety and reclaim our neighborhood.

We will engage stakeholders in these discussions. Every voice deserves to be heard, but our neighborhood's safety, and the safety of its residents and its patrons, must come first.

We cannot continue to accept violence as the new normal.

This week was filled with moments of celebration, community, advocacy, and family.

We celebrated new investments in our parks, stood alongside community advocates fighting back against ICE, and attended a town hall at Edison High School to listen to those directly impacted by ICE enforcement.

In the midst of it all, we made time connect with neighbors.

It was a heavy week, but also a reminder of the importance of community, connection, and hanging with family during difficult times.

And on the bright side, the weather finally cooled down, and the 49ers play tomorrow! ❤️💛🏈
