The EDC, funded by both public and private investments, offers investors a wide range of benefits and services including business facilitation and advocacy, workshops to educate businesses on tax incentives and other services that encourage expansion and retention, site selection services, and the opportunity to stay connected in the community through EDC events and publications. Meet Anthony!

Anthony enrolled in the Fresno VAC program, offered in partnership with the Department of Social Services, where he successfully completed a 12-week construction pre-apprenticeship program.

Throughout the program, Anthony gained valuable hands-on experience with employer partners while exploring the different trades and career pathways available within the construction industry.

Through the partnership with Fresno County EDC, Anthony was able to turn that training into a career. He became a union member, secured employment with an industry employer working on the High-Speed Rail project, and is now earning a prevailing wage while contributing to improvements in his own community in downtown Fresno.

Anthony’s story is a great example of why investments in workforce training matter. The impact extends beyond the individual participant. It creates greater economic opportunity for their families, strengthens our local workforce, supports employers, and benefits the community as a whole.

Congratulations Anthony on all your hard work and accomplishments! We are proud to have been part of your journey and look forward to seeing your continued success.

From Pre-Apprenticeship to a Union Career: TreQuis’s Story
TreQuis began his journey when he was referred to the Fresno Valley Apprenticeship 12-week Construction Pre-Apprenticeship Program through our partnership with the Department of Social Services.
During the program, TreQuis gained hands-on experience and earned industry-recognized certifications and training in First Aid/CPR, OSHA 10, traffic safety, 40-hour hazardous waste removal, ATSSA flagging, grade checking, Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP), residential wiring, confined space safety, blueprint reading, and asbestos removal.

One year later, where is he now?
TreQuis is now a proud member of LiUNA Local 294 and is approaching his one-year work anniversary with Katch Environmental, one of our partnering employers through the New Employment Opportunities (NEO) Program.
Katch Environmental provided TreQuis with an opportunity to put the skills he developed through Fresno VAC program directly to work and sponsored him into the union, helping him take another major step toward building a long-term career in the construction industry.

Today, TreQuis is working in the field, earning a prevailing wage, gaining valuable industry experience, and continuing to build his career.

His journey is a great example of what can happen when workforce training, public programs, and employer partnerships work together. The pathway did not end when TreQuis completed his 12-week training. It connected him to an employer willing to invest in his potential and provided an opportunity to turn newly developed skills into sustainable employment and a union career.

Katch Environmental continues to be a valuable employer partner, providing Fresno VAC graduates with real opportunities to use the skills they worked hard to earn while accessing quality jobs and prevailing wages.

For TreQuis, 12-weeks of training helped open the door. Nearly one year into his career, he continues to build on that foundation.

Success in the skilled trades is about more than completing a training program—it’s about taking the next step and turning opportunity into a career.

Justin Green, a graduate of Huron Valley Apprenticeship Connections program, knows that journey firsthand. Justin was selected as a student speaker at his graduation, where he shared his experience and encouraged his fellow graduates as they prepared to begin their careers in the trades.

Today, Justin is a proud member of the Local 3 Operators Union, continuing to build his skills and career as a member of the skilled trades workforce.

Justin’s story is a reminder of what can happen when you show up, put in the work, and take advantage of the opportunities in front of you.
