10 million digital checkouts. An estimated $120 million in savings. All with a free Library card!

Fresno County residents have borrowed more than 10 million eBooks and audiobooks through the Library. At an average retail price of $12 per title, that’s more than $120 million worth of digital books borrowed.

“Digital borrowing has changed when and where residents can use the Library,” said Sally Gomez, County Librarian and Director of the Fresno County Public Library. “They can download a book from home, listen during their commute, or find their next read at any hour. That convenience matters, and so does the money people save by borrowing instead of buying.”

From just 33 checkouts on the first day in 2011 to more than 4,000 a day today, digital borrowing has become part of how Fresno County reads.

Today, we’re off to the Big Fresno Fair, where parking has always been a concern. Let’s take a look at two photos from the distant past. The first photo is of the parking lot in 1914. Can you imagine trying to locate your own automobile? “It’s the black convertible in the third row!”
The second photo is from 1941. Finding your car would have been a little easier at this time!

Thank you to the Pop Laval Foundation for permission to use these images. For more wonderful photos from Fresno’s past, check out their page: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100057627640483
